I agree about pheromone, the beat is hypnotic and the sheer intensity and funky darkness of the song, ooh boy! One of his best.

Putting aside the "I'd rather have had X instead of X" games, it's pretty amazing how this album is cherished today considering that music critics were less than enthusiastic at the time. Of course there was no Org in 1994 and I only knew a handful of fans back then, all liked it but I really wonder if the reaction was so positive in the community at the time: maybe those who were more connected than I could answer that?

Personally I like it exactly the way it is. With all those tracks that were floating around at the time as potential tracks for both Come and TGE, I'm somewhat more inclined to think TGE could have been tracklisted a bit differently (even though I love it the way it is too), but Come I wouldn't touch a thing.

As for it being his best 90's album IDK. There were a lot of wonderful albums and I couldn't pick one if I had too.

Those namechange years were a fantastic era to be both a Prince fan AND a teenager, whcih I was. It was crzay, u never knew what was going to happen next, the whole world was puzzled by Prince and his war with WB and the music suddenly sounded so refreshing, particularly when u had access to the live shows in bootlegs. After the extravaganza of the D&P and Act I/II tours, Prince was again sounding dirty, underground and avant-garde on stage, it was almost as if we were back to the sound of Dirty Mind and Controversy!

I think of all Prince albums, this is the one album that deserves the most "I´d rather have x instead of x " games, as you call it.

I remember those threads by sci-fi-filmnerd back in the days about the many different incarnations of the Come album, with different sequencing and probably the most often changed tracklist I know of.

Sure, The Dreamfactory, Sign of the Times, Rave etc. etc. went through changes, too, but those threads by that orger made me realize how many different versions were planned and then scrapped.
