COME is the BEST of the 90's...

I'm sorry I have to say it once more... But... COME is the most complete album of the 90's.

It's so short in terms of sequence it's so complete. It reminds me a bit of PARADE in it's sequence...

I feel just overall as an album it's just so solid, even though I feel other albums like D&P, TGE, Love Symbol contains stronger singular tracks overall... However, if it makes any sense, I still feel COME is the better album as a whole.

If u listen to COME then listen to albums like D&P, TGE, parts of the Love Symbol album and Emancipation as well... COME sounds so fresh till this day. TGE sounds so so dated when you listen to it now, as well as D&P with all those corny early 90's house rapping.

The lyrical composition of Pheremone is just sexual seducting sinister poetry at it's best... Also one of his best BEATS imo...

COME really sounds amazing for 21 years old.

Not an unreasonable assertion. I'd say there's a 3 way battle between Come , TGE and Symbol. As Luvsexy4all said 1992-1996 was the second golden era. But I'd stop before including Chaos or Emancipation

As a unit I'd agree. There's really nothing weak on it if you ignore Orgasm. The Symbol album though has my favorite single tracks of the 90's.

Change it one more time..

1-2-3-4! 1-2-3-4! The album loses a point for that line alone. Come itself is a great track. Space is pretty cool. But overall this was the first Prince album that truly disappointed me. D&P and symbol had some weak tracks, but I enjoyed those albums overall.

I agree.I was kinda disappointed with the Come album. It lacks the power and energy of Love Symbol and TGE (his best albums of the 90s,imo).

Agreed, Come takes the cake in the nineties! But as with most albums, I wish for some small changes. Why does half the song start with the sound of waves? Loose is too far from the album, sound- and genrewise. And Prince, an orgasm really isn't the best ending imagineable on record.

Other than that: the sound is great, Come sounds so warm and lush. Such a relief after a long run of 80s and plastic production. Only to be revisited with the rainbow children. Short and sweet: in the early nineties artists thought they had to cram as many genres as possible on 78 minutes of disc. But not Come, thank heavens no.

Of course The Universal Love Mix would have added bonuspoint if chosen over Space.

I agree, "Come" is really the best of the 90's.

A great album, not too long, focused and full of great tracks (barring "Orgasm", one of the most embarassing thing ever released by P.... in my world this album ends with "Letitigo").

TGE is its twin in quality, but it suffers for being too long.

Sometimes less is better.

I know most fans strongly dislike Strays of the World but I think it should have been left on the Come album as the last track like it was meant to be. That would´ve been a perfect closing song, especially with that "Come..." invitation at the end of the song.

I like that little gem a lot and of all his boombastic sounding songs, Strays of the World is the one I like the most.

The album just sounds very incomplete when you know that Strays of the World was supposed to be the last song on it.

The one-word song titles were fun first, but turning a whole sentence like "Let it go" into Letitgo was a bit silly.

Cool album though, especially in hindsight.

If he'd used the original version of the title track, instead of the horrid album version, and had kept "Poem" intact instead of breaking it up into annoying seques, I might agree.

I strongly prefer the epic jazzy album version of "Come" to all other versions.

And the problem of "Poem" is that it still has that disturbing guitars-moaning delirioum named "Orgasm" at the end.

Anyway, as usual, matter of tastes.

Me too, those other versions do absolutely nothing for me.

The only thing I don´t like about the album version are those sucking sounds ( pussy eating?) near the end of the song. Those should´ve been left out, in my opinion.

I agree with you, the sucking sounds are unnecessary.

Anyway, it is a minor defect compared to the otherwise absolute quality of the track.

Yep. By far. There are some of his 90's elements that tinge it with a gross film, but it's kept at bay mostly.

The title track, Pheromone, Space, Solo, and letitgo are classics, the rest could be swept away under the TGE rug.

Actually It would have been great if someone did just that, placed Shy and Eye Hate U into Come, then you have one really solid album in Come, and a gross album in TGE that you could forget ever existed.

It is, in a way, the Black Album of the 90s. It has much the same themes: sex, lust, fetishism, S&M, violence... But The Black Album at least had one love song. There's no love on Come. Only loneliness and despair. It's Prince at his most paranoid. Dark. There is no other word to describe it.

No, what are you talkin about, the album version is the great one, so jazzy such a classic. The album is good, i love Papa, for me that's the best song on the album, and Dark of course, specially those lines when he said in the backgrounds: "for leaving me alone, alone, alone" sound great, so lonely and desperate. I wish Prince had done more "dark" songs as Papa, with those kind of dark lyrics and with the sound of this album.
