Which is the best song? "Dirty Mind" or "Uptown"? Both songs are off the Dirty Mind album.
Which song do you like the best?
I prefer the song "Dirty Mind" because it sounds very disco - oddly reminds me of Alicia Bridges' "I Love The Nightlift", but more grittier and darker.

Uptown! It's funky as hell and I love the lyrics. It's very anthemic.

dirty mind. I don't know how to put it clearly, but dirty mind sounds more unique to my ears. Uptown is a good song but its structure is pretty conventional. Dirty mind builds the same tension for almost the whole song, doesn't really have a chorus and is pretty minimal. The fact that it works so well in spite of not fitting into a more familiar structure is impressive to me.

"Uptown" because he put forward a manifesto, in which he calls for the establishment of a pleasure-centered society, with loads of sex and no racial and ethnic boundaries.

not crazy about either one, the jams on that record are when you were mine and head. If you've got funk, you've got style.

Both of these songs are classics, I pefer Dirty Mind but when I feel rebeleous, Uptown is the song of choice lol. It's lyrics about evryone being free to do whatever in this wonderful town realy gets to me. One song that I should maybe throw in the discussion is the last song on the album. Partyup is so funky and catching. ""Fighting war is such a f*cking bore" That song can really never get old tbh. I feel some kind of love 4 U
I don't know your name This is the kind of love that takes 2 I want U and I'm not ashamed

I love new wave synths so "Dirty Mind". It's cut and dry and minimalist in a creative, unique way and I like it.

I always get a Dity Mind when I'm Uptown.... Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Uptown...still has all his themes

I'm surprised no one has posted the obligatory Prince-ism (its true), but whichever one you like best. That's the beauty of being a Prince fan. Uptown has the killer arrangement but I find myself listening to DM more. Partyup bests them both btw!! (IMO)

Off the album I like Uptown better, but when he preformed the songs live on the 1999 Tour, I much preferred Dirty Mind. It had so much more "energy" (for lack of a better word). If a man is considered guilty
For what goes on in his mind Then give me the electric chair For all my future crimes"
