6 Pages in... has anyone actually managed to come up with an example which shows Prince's statement was wrong?
Prince keeps hammering this point, while he should be thinking about how to use the internet to his advantage. Which is something else than: making money.
I don't think anyone would argue the fact that artists, starting and established, are having a tough time making financial ends meet. But in the end that is the downloaders' fault. 'Our' fault.

He is close-minded.
Is streaming stopping Madonna from selling albums and do global and successful tours?
How are other legends still selling millions.
He is delusional. Streaming is a platform and it's useful. More people can watch your videos, stream your songs, and if you gain fans, you will gain sales.
Look at HIT N RUN, nobody knows about it. The GP has forgot about him.
My friends like a couple of Prince songs but when they want to search his videos are NOT on youtube.
Art Official Age was available on Spotify, had a music video on VEVO and Surprise! He had 2 top 10 albums on Billboard. |

In order to "hammer a point" you need to state something repeatedly. He hasn't.
As for Prince & Money - The only reason anyone does anything is money. Welcome to reality. The richer you are the more it's perceived as bad taste to talk about money. We all want it just the same.

If you're stealing from them. Yes. It's your fault.

I think it's one thing being right about a problem. Which he WAS. Next step is finding a solution. Pouting and sulking is usually not a successful business strategey.
The Newspaper industry is facing digital disruption, the tv industry is facing it, the music industry, the MS Windows software industry is facing it. The average worker is facing it. Sooner or later an indusrty sees that wagon wheel sales are not going up. That horse buggy sales have peaked and are not going to keep gpoing up up up. That "gosh-darnet when is this automobile thing going to go away" might feel good, but sooner or later you have to get in your limo tell your driver to head home so you can figure something else out.
But Prince is in a really good place to be right now and should enjoy it. Unlike most other musicians he has it made. |

Prince always goes on about artists needing to 'get paid', the internet discussion seems an extension of that.
Videos were always means to an end: to have people buy your stuff, go to your concerts. So he would make money out of it.|
Direct, clear communication with fans is also something the internet can be used for. Costs him nothing, everything to gain. But hey...

You talk about Prince, talking about it, far more than Prince ever talked about it. The dude does like two interviews a year. The fact you repeat it like a mantra is inconsequential
Unless you donate all your wages to charity, you can't complain about someone wanting to get paid for the work they do. The only time it's an issue is when the person wanting to get paid earns more than you. Jealousy is human nature.

Keyword: Were. Not anymore.
Bieber has had some of the hottest videos over the past 3 years. How many of his concerts have you been to? How much money has Bieber made off you in the past 5 years?

Like being on Twitter... literally talking to his fans?

He needs to sort out his money issues on his own and meanwhile use the internet for yeah, videos for instance.
Of course I'm not going to a Bieber concert. A great video does not a good song make.
Yeah, Twitter, short enough so he can keep throwing out his cryptic messages. I mean communicate like a grown-up.
Come out and say: I never intend to give my fans a Purple Rain deluxe, just the remasterd original and that's it. So y'all can stop asking for it and buy my HitnRun masterpiece.

Being forward and direct. It's a radical concept but it just might work. |

He has. Then fans moaned that it wasn't meeting their expectations. So he stopped.
Again... this is just you demanding free content. (also if and when you reply remember you've already admited not paying for anything over the past 20 years).

Because he's not a robot?

Because nobody other than 10 or so people on Prince.org really give a shit. Purple Rain sounds today as good as it did in 1984.
He's already stated it's with WB. WB have not denied this. |

You're free to come check out my extensive legal audiovisual + book collection anyday.
I don't need the videos, the uneducated public does. And I hope you're not really defending his website fiasco.
Maybe WB missed the deleted tweet?

Al di Meola was in (the far superior, imo) Return To Forever, not Weather Report. Jus' sayin'...
He didn't say that Al Di Meola was in Weather Report. He was just mentioning some names from that era.

Oh Lord, what's the old rhyme we used to say..... same song, second verse, same as the first.....but in this case, fiftieth verse. Andy is a four letter word. |

I wonder if the usual suspects here on the Org will shit on Thom Yorke for basically saying the same thing as old man Prince....? The irony is Yorke has taken it a step further.....WAAAAAAAAY FURTHER.....lol...Hmmmmmm......
Daily Beast
Thom Yorke: Google and YouTube Are Like Nazis
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke thinks YouTube and its parent company Google are like the Nazis because they've "seized control" of art that belongs to other people. During a recent interview with Italian newspaper La Repubblica, the musician was asked how other artists can profit in the digital age. "People continue to say that this is an era where music is free, cinema is free. It’s not true," he asserted.
"The creators of services make money—Google, YouTube. A huge amount of money, by trawling, like in the sea—they take everything there is. ‘Oh, sorry, was that yours? Now it’s ours. No, no, we’re joking – it’s still yours’. They’ve seized control of it—it’s like what the Nazis did during the second world war. Actually, it’s like what everyone was doing during the war, even the English—stealing the art of other countries. What difference is there?" [Edited 12/1/15 8:47am] |
