I'm willing to bet that if I searched, I'd find a post from you claiming you'd buy Hit&Run if it was available on CD... then it was made available on CD... so you move the goalposts again. Now you had to illegally download it because it wasn't on the Ad-Supported version of Spotify.

Does somebody want to call the Billy Goats Gruff and let them know it's safe to cross the bridge now?

I prefer this Prince over the polished calculated later-life oldies act who is nothing but a cash cow for a company feasting on his name.

He IS a calculated oldies act, using his '80 music and especially Purple Rain as a concert cash cow.

What do you think he's going to play on the piano tour, if it ever happens?

He doesn't promote his new music or build a tour around it. Rightly so, of course, as it's crap,

but you get my drift.

It may not be because he thinks his newer music is crap. What he does know is that relatively few people heard it.

You act like you've figured it out, but there are few if any acts that ride on their new songs after two or three decades. They'll mix old and new on tour, at best. Most play 80 % older material, 20 % newer, if that.

Now that we've established your condescension is bullshit and undeserved, consider he's going to do his songs with just a piano -- that's not something that many artists can do but of course don't let that be a positive factor in his favor, you don't want to ruin your know-it-all Prince fan image.

How great that 'we' have established that.
You must be Prince, then.

If you're a forward looking artist, you don't care about giving the people what they want.
You play smaller venues and play your new stuff.

Cut down on the entourage and the hair products and focus on the music.

In that article though he states, it takes away from the pressure of having to perform the new album

There was a never a time when the average band or even fairly famous band got rich. When I was a kid, in Detroit, a lot of famous musicians and bands at the height of their popularity lived basicly just as the average person did in the city at that time. The Four Tops and The Spinners lived in the 6 Mile and Lodge area, Marvin Gaye on 7 Mile and Livernois, Smokey Robinson 8Mile and Southfield, Debarge on Burt Rd near Lahser and 6 Mile... none of them lived extravagantly, except Smokey who had homes CA and MI. But it wasn't uncommon to see these guys in their everyday lives dropping their kids off at school and just doing the same things the average person did.

The big money was always record execs and the rare superstar bands.

Boy, is he ever right about modern music "lacking danger," and I like the comparisons he makes (Al DiMeola and Weather Report). I'll add Mahavishnu Orchestra, Tony Williams' Lifetime and Ornette Coleman to the list of '70s performers who could truly scare you with their abilities!

It's disappointing to read that he "won't know what songs [he's] going to do when [he] goes on stage," which means the piano portion has not been rehearsed. I would prefer to hear him do newly arranged piano versions of songs which haven't previously been given a piano treatment, rather than just noodling.

I usually skip every interview with Prince, they are usually very un-interesting.

There was a time (the 80s-90s) when I would buy every magazine (and book) to hear what he had to say.. not anymore.

Basically Prince is saying the same over and over.... bah.. so boring.. zzz

Stop acting like you're some kind of authority and expecting Prince to act saintly with no regards for business.

It should ideally be a mix of well-known songs performed on the piano plus some stuff that is not as well-known. Other than that, fans will get what they get and don't feel obliged to attend -- even one fo the best musicians in the world does not seem to be up to your lofty artistic standards, so I guess he'll have to go on without your precious approval and support (sniff!).

Furthermore, the words 'Prince' and 'business sense' in one sentence is just too funny.

"Stare", that's what we want? Well maybe not.

You know Prince is a musical chameleon, he can write anything from a minimalist pop song to a piano or folk ballad, a rock anthem or a jazz-tinged or bluesy number. He can have the point of view of a 16 year old and he can be a world-weary older man. Incidentally, he can do this in all sorts of configurations too, and the latest is the piano and voice thing. Yeah it's super-common, but he has only done this format a bit in the ONA tour.

He's not for only one type of fan, he's for many. As a super-initiated, MEGA-collector, you're spoiled (I am too) and like quite a few longtime fans, you have developed a certain expectation of what you want him to do. Some fans (not necesarily you) talk as if they were his mentor or boss, it's ridiculous.

He's doing what he wants and we all can do what we want, including give up and move on.

[Edited 11/16/15 5:04am]

Oh "fans such as yourself" -- myself. Who do you think you are?

I've been obsessed music all my life and received a great musical education encompassing nearly everything since the Middle Age. Before I even knew who Prince was, I knew who were Monteverdi and Scarlati, and countless others right up to modern composers like Philip Glass.

I'm hardly the "common denominator". Now if you would only get off your high horse and realize you're not the only one with a bit of culture and taste, you'd realize your dogmatic views are hardly the mark of sophistication. They may well mean you're not sophisticated enough to accomodate other perspectives.

I get yours but it's old and it looks down on a lot of people. You're welcome to stay a snob if it makes you feel good, but to me your ideas are primitive and conventional. Open yourself a bit, you (or I) can not be the only reference, that's BORING.
