I've loved NPS since day 1, I think its awesome.

To each their own. I like two songs on that CD - Come on and The One. I like everything on HNR except Million $ show and June. Everything else on that is great to me. I think every single album after NPS is better than it. I am glad someone likes it. Thats what is great about Prince. He does so many different styles of music different people will like different things.

Works of art are appreciated by the light of the day. NPS was released at a time where the consensus among media, the general public and fans was that P had lost his magic. Now it's been nearly 20 years (God! ) and people look back and see the record for what it is. I'm convinced than the more time passes the more people will look back at Prince's 90's career and particularly the so-called plastic years and acknowledge that there were great songs and albums during that era. I see more and more love for Emancipation and NPS here and that's a sign. I really loved those albums back then so I'm glad that they are more appreciated today, people really were blinded by their desire to see Prince doing what he'd done before and missed a lot of the greatness of that era's music. It was sophisticated, it was elegant, it was funky and it was deeply inspired thematically and lyrically. The era that begins with Emancipation and ends with TCI/TS may be my favorite Prince era after all.

If you take it as what it is, a simple "party album" with no particular artistic ambition, it is good.

There are 3 tracks that I think are among the best released in the 90's by P, "Come On", "Wasted Kisses" and obviously "The One" (this one really screams out for a place on a proper P album, not an NPG).

The other tunes are from good to fair, with "Push It Up" and "Freaks On This Side" being for me the worst. But there is nothing bad as "Poom Poom", to say one.

The only thing that can make it "underrated" is if you look at it as if P have to give us only "artistic establishment", album by album.

If you look at it with the right perspective, as a lesser chapter in P musical book, it's a nice CD.

I don't particularly like the way of production P used in that years.

There are some great tunes in those albums, but overall I think the so called "plastic sound" make them "lesser" than what they could be.

The great problem for me is that P's music of that era seems more cold, losing the warm of the past.

"Emancipation" is a mixed bag, where unfortunately every song at the end sounds like the others and somewhat "New Power Soul" seems an appendix to "Emancipation".
All in all there are great tracks ("The Love We Make" and "The One" just to say two are asterpieces), but as a whole I find it musically more boring that other P era.

Oppositely, I find the production of those years gorgeous and the sound the warmest in P's entire career, it's smooth like a NY lounge bar in 1994

I admit it took me a while to get into too, years maybe but I love it now.

Come On and Wasted Kisses are reat specially the former. What is goin on with WK, seems like a song in which Prince is killin the woman. It sounds a littler disturbing

Not underrated, but overly criticised.

NPS is not a good album, according to Prince standards.

But it isn´t that bad either, to be ternally shat upon.

It´s okay, decent, with 2 or 3 great songs.

And that´s it.

Come On, The One, and Wasted Kisses by themselves sounds better than anything he's released since! The rest of the album was utter trash, but those 3 songs are amazing!
