PlectrumElectrum is a fine album. There I said it!

Is it as great as 1999/Parade/Sign/name your own? No, but I don't think that ever was the intention anyway. Is Hannah a great singer? No, but neither are Vanity nor Appolonia and nobody ever hated on them like they do on the girl whose name spelt backwards says the same mothafuckin shit... PlecElec is a nice collection of songs ranging from the reggae-flavored StopThisTrain (better than Blue Light or Ripopgodazippa) to the punkrockabilly of Marz and everything in between. It's Prince recharging his creative batteries by going back to basics.. And as for the stupid shit that is Boytrouble, well, our hero placed that conveniently at the beginning of side B, so that it's easy to skip. Overall, Plec is a fine album. Come on, Plec fans, even if there's only a few of you, step up! woot!

PlectrumElectrum is a fine album like a flat tire was fine tire before the flat.

About four songs are worthy, some others can be classified from mildly tolerable to barely bearable protégés stuff.

i don't mind it. the Prince vocal tracks are good. Boytrouble and Stopthistrain are just horrid. Hannah's songs just bug me.

3121 is the best "modern" PRINCE album. The most complete one...

I think it ranges somewhere between bad and not-that-bad for me. It's better than the NewPowerGenertion Tony M. rap album for sure, but it's still got to be among the ten worst records Prince was ever asscoiated with.

For me, the songs are there but the production keeps it from really taking off. Something about it doesn't sound right to my ears, it's way too polished to be a rock album I guess. Things sound EQ'd and like they were labored over too deeply, like whoever mixed it was handed 4-5 tracks and was told to spend 5 hours on it, so he made it sound as "perfect" (sterile) as he could. There isn't excitement to it, no sense of progression in the music. I get Prince is a perfectionist and stuff, but I fee like PE would have been a bit stronger if he subverted some of his habits and let the recordings sound loose and a little unpolished. Note, I said the recordings and not the songs themselves. I can still put this on and enjoy it, but it has the same problem Palma Violets second record had for me, it's mostly a lifeless experience. In both cases, the songs work better live because they have more energy.

i hate it smile up to the point where i actually never listened to it anymore.

so i tried to make a few changes and what do you know, i like it now smile

01. Wow

02. Pretzelbodylogic (*)
03. Screwdriver

04. PlectrumElectrum

05. Groovy Potential

06. FixUrLifeUp

07. RocknRollLoveAffair

08. AnotherLove

09. TicTacToe

10. Marz

11. FunknRoll

the whole thing flows surprisingly well and it's only prince on vocals,
with the exception of TicTacToe which is dual vocal anyway. it's still

not perfect but it's at least less jarring, for me personally, when it's
all prince vocals and a few more decent songs thrown in there. kinda
reminds me a little bit of Chaos & Disorder this way.

music

(*) cut the beginning chant off pretzelbodylogic.

That's the problem with these home made compilations: we're talking about a totally different album now.

Disagree with op. This should have a been a rocking album, but it isn't. I like BT but it doesn't fit, prob would've worked better on HNR.

I like maybe three songs, but never really listen to them very often b/c it's so difficult to get through this album w/o skipping tracks.

WC pretty much ruins this album for me. Hannah's voice is atrocious to my ears, I'm glad some can appreciate her, but I can't. She has her moments, but that's not enough.

Wow surpsingly doesn't do much for me, nor does AL & TTT & STT are just filler with some nice music, but as a whole they fall flat for me.

The title track is the best one & seems alone on an unsatisfying album.

I think the fact that this wasn't the rock album I was hoping for made me dislike it even more, I was hoping for at least an album similar to C&D but PLEL turned out to be even worse than Musicology

Finally, ONE other person here that digs 'BOYTROUBLE'. That ish is dope. I think the 'PlectrumElectrum' album is highly underrated here as a whole.

I want to be honest and say that I listened to it 3 times, being released together I preferred to concentrate me into AOA.

Sorry, there is something good but it's not entirely my cup of tea.

I was under the delusion that we were going to get some kind of cool, rock concept album. That's the direction I thought Prince was going when he first formed 3EG. While I didn't think PE was a bad album, I was disappointed that it didn't live up to the concerts, which I loved. "Wow", "Anotherlove", "Marz", and "Tictactoe" (yes, really) are among my favorite Prince songs. Unfortunately, though, dreck like "Boytrouble", and ill-fitting songs like "Stopthistrain" really brought down the feel of the album as a whole, along with Hannah's vocals. I never minded Hannah as a drummer, but she has no business singing. She sounds like she belongs in a no-talent teenybopper girl group. I don't blame 3EG for the problems with this album, and I think they're all talented in their own right. I blame Prince, because he was the one calling the shots.

What I like about this album is that it fills up the space on my shelf between AOA and HnR nicely. If it wasn't there, one of those two cds might lean over slightly, and that would upset my OCD.
