There are some albums where to choose 5 songs between all is a crime.

"Sign O The Times" is one of this kind. I simply can't choose 5.

Instead I can choose the only track that it's not on the same level of the others....

"It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night".

Yes, that's true. Thanx to this thread I listened to the entire album again and Beautiful Night was the only one that didn't hold my attention. Kind of in one ear, out the other. It works better in concert than on record.

In the context I suppose. But in a vacuum that's still such a monster track.

Can't nobody...fuck with us!!! So good.

I agree.I don't wanna call this a "filler track",but it just seems kinda unnecessary.

Wow, It's Gonna be a Beautiful Night always seemed to me a fresh classy breath of texture and different sound compared to the skeletal sparse sound of most that album. It seemed like a door opened to a glimpse of some live nighttime soul party, which is exactly what it was. I also think the mix of it was very unique and the way the rap sounds like an airport intercom was very cool. Never thought it was throwaway. In fact I remember a musician friend listening to the album mildly interested (loved Housequake) but jumping up when this track came on. He asked me why I hadn't pushed it before to him.

It's kind of like people I know who didn't like the Pronce shit I was playing would think that Got to Shake Something sounded really cool. I think prince knew what he was doing by including this track.

I have always love this song and fits perfectly on the album. Never understood why it doesn't get love around here.

Adorecream

How could I miss this thread, I guess the Sign o the Times mess with my mind.

Warning I am about to get loopy with praise here.

.

1. Adore (Because........wtf do u think - a cascading niagara of perfectly formed vocals and pure emotive aural sex in one song with the spirit of Marvin gaye, Smokey Robinson, Al Green and Bill Withers combined into one with Prince) 36/10

2. Forever in my life - Love, love, love, love 17/10

3. Getting harder now, lets go with the Housequake, everybody jump up and down - 14/10

4. Not that u r helpless, but sometime loving a great album is what being in love is about - If I was ur girlfriend - 13.8/10

5. The title cut, 13/10, Prince's first vocal is a sign of the quality to come, plus he sets up this doom and gloom set to a funky beat and a child called Nate.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

1) "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" Listen carefully to the "affliction brought on by the Witches curse" part with the vocal and organ- brilliant!

2) "I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man"-perfect rock pop

3) "Housequake"- the performance in the SOTT movie was mesmerizing

4) "Hot Thing"- such confidence and abandonment

5) "U Got The Look"- Sheena Easton looked amazing in the vid
