Judith Hill, Hit-N-Run and D'Angelo's comments Just got hold of Judith Hill's album, as well as Liv Warfield's. WOW! GREAT albums. REALLY GREAT albums!! These records just kinda confirm my thoughts on Prince and the recent criticism/comments concerning Hit-N-Run. People seem to think Prince is some sort of one trick pony; he's not. ANY type of music or musical format/style he wants to pursue, he can, with whomever he chooses. If wants a live band sound he can do that or if he wants an electric sound he can do that. AND he can do both well or he can experiment with both. The fact is that HE CAN DO ALL THAT and do it well. D'Angelo's "electronic noise" reference to Hit-N-Run is funny, considering the fact that after a 14 year disappearance this dude returned with his underwhelming Black Messiah and a horrible voice. We already know what Prince can accomplish within a year, let alone 14 years, so that criticism is completely out the window. I just think people need to realize the depth of this man's talent and artistry and how easy it is to do what he does and how well he can do it. We all may not connect with everything he does, but that shouldn't be an indictment against his overall talent because just when we think he's tapped, he'll completely blow our mind with somethin else.

Yes, I also just heared the Judith Hill album and I really like it. Prince's talent will always be all over the place, he goes in ten different directions at once and sometimes it's great and sometimes it stinks. We'll have to take the good with the bad, the bitter with the sweet and that's the way it will always be.

I don't believe anyone here, on Prince.Org, fails to recognize Prince's talent and know that he's capable of anything musically but that doesn't mean we can't be disappointed with his work. - Why take it (D'Angelos'opinion) so personal? Prince's skin should be as thick as a Rhino's after all this time in he biz.

You do realise D did his interview -before- HITNRUN was released right...? If you'd actually watched/read about the interview you'd know he wasn't referencing it specifically.

Hmm. Anyone who thinks Black Messiah is underwhelming is exactly the kind of person I would expect to like HNR.
I would say precisely the opposite is true.

The verdict is still out on Hit-N-Run because i don't do streaming. As for Black Messiah, i expected more growth; i mean 14 years is long time; there are some tracks that i like, but the garbled vocals kill it for me and some of the tracks point to some growth, but overall this album coulda dropped a year after Voodoo. Maybe he shoulda let Kendra do the singing. I was really pulling D and wanted him to drop somethin epic. Judith Hill's album is WAY better than Black Messiah. The Rainbow Children is better than Black Messiah.

As much as I love Judith Hill and Liv Warfield's albums... Prince is not the creative force behind either. I wish he could get his hsit together enough to make albums like that, but he really only contributes to a couple of songs on each. That's similar to his contribution to Patti LaBelle, Sheena Easton and Chaka Kahn records back in the 80's.

D'angelo as a musician does not and never appeal to all Prince fans. Lets stop being so damned presumptuous. His music has never appealed to me, regardless of whether I liked any particular Prince album or not. Change it one more time..

Like him or not, D'Angelo does have great respect for Prince and acknowledges him as a primary influence. He even covered Shes Always In My Hair. His comment is not inaccurate - especially considering that Dangelo has not sold out with EDM and has kept his work organic and authentic. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. lmao so it wasn't even questlove who posted it, you read a comment by some random person and believed it.

And not every track on the album is a dance track, either! 1999 was a "dance" album, of its time. Prince has always made a variety of styles and his capacity for reinvention is almost peerless. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

His voice DOES sound a bit strange on Black Messiah, and whatever he did he probably did as an artistic expression, not because his voice is bad. I can totally relate to your criticism as far as the mumbled, "garbled" vocals are concerned....they are very difficult to understand. But I saw him twice (in 2001 and this summer, 2015) and his voice still sounds fine. I have no idea why he didn´t sing as clear on his album as he does during the tour. His voice is absolutely fine. 14 years is a looooong time, I admit. And yes, if we count all the GOOD songs Prince has released in that timespan since the Voodoo album dropped, then there is no comparison, Prince has easily written more good songs as a whole....but I find Black Messiah to be a much stronger album and a much bolder statement than any album that Prince has released since Voodoo came out. Even TRC, his last great, artistic statement and cohesive concept album, came out after Voodoo and was in parts a reaction to Voodoo. And not really that much better compared to both Voodoo and Black Messiah. I like the Black Messiah album a lot, and I loved the tour. Haven´t listened to Judith Hill´s album yet, but I trust your judgment that it is good. So I will check that out real soon.

According to the info we have for the moment (maybe subject to change): Prince is only responsible for 2 songs on The Unexpected (only one of which he arranged and recorded) and had nothing to do with the rest. Prince didn't compose anything on Back In Time but arranged and played on each and every song. Based on that I would consider him one of two creative forces (with Judith) on Back In Time, but absolutely not on The Unexpected. The music would not even be heard by the public if it was not for Prince so how is he not the creative force behind it? You and the others who do not like the CD need to realize this the music Prince wanted to put out because you do not care for it does not mean it horrible. Realize that there is nothing wrong with dance music and since got his start doing RnB EDM back in the all he has done is come full circle.

-// No I believe Judith attorney stated those songs were written by Judith and the were re-recorded at Paisley. Legally they would not have been able to just steal the actual original recordings and now they are putting it out on Tidal so I think they in clear legally
