How does Christopher Tracey's Parade feel underdeveloped?

When I first heard it, it sounded like an explosion of colors, there were sound coming from everywhere. What could actually be added to make it sound 'developed?
* remember it was developed to fit a piece in the film Under the Cherry Moon.
1.) Do you think it filled the spot well?

.

New Position: pulling from Carribean influences (Lisa and/or Wendy pulled this one out of the vault via 81) Wendy was skilled on the steel drums. Carribbean music of this vein tends to be more stripped. What could actually be added to make it sound 'developed?'
1.) Do U think it filled the spot in the movie well?
2.) I think having the band playing in the movie @ Mary Sharon's party would have definately made the movie much better

.

I Wonder U

I heard the piece before the strings and many other instruments were added. And I LOVE it, it's very raw and steamy. With all the added instruments, I love it even more, it feels like a whirlwind of desire, poetic, chic. And if it was longer I think it would have taken something away. It's shortness makes me want it more. I didn't like the added piece on the tour so much. I wish it would have been allowed to continue to build musically with some breathing and orgasm, maybe some electric guitar(like AnotherLover or the Flesh session cut:Up From Below) But what could have been done to make it fell 'developed'?
1.) Do you think it fit the scene in the movie?

.

Under the Cherry Moon
Perfectly stripped. You hear it in different parts of the movie including the opening intro(before An Honest Man) I love the sharp crispness of the song. Prince showing more of his piano over guitar skills.

1.) Do U think it fit the scene(s) in the movie?

Listening 2 Sometimes It Snows in April and hearing the squeaking and tinging of the guitar strings and piano keys

An awesome description of "Parade" songs. thumbs up!

I'll admit I disliked -- even hated -- "Parade" at first and could not understand the Org's love affair with this album. And then one day (soon after "ATWIAD" had clicked), "Parade" clicked. I realized what a fucking amazing album it was, and how bold he was for releasing something like this in 1986 as a major pop superstar. The album is divine, imo. Only complaint I would have is that it's too short. He should have added several tracks. I try to customize it like:

01) An Honest Man
02) Christopher Tracy's Parade
03) New Position
04) I Wonder U
05) Under the Cherry Moon
06) Mia Bocca
07) Love or Money
08) Girls and Boys
09) Sexual Suicide
10) Life Can Be So Nice
11) Kiss
12) Venus De Milo
13) Do U Lie
14) Old Friends 4 Sale
15) All My Dreams
16) Mountains
17) Anotherloverholenyohead
18) Sometimes It Snows in April
19) Heaven (would have been an amazing ending track, imo, to both the film and album)

It flows well like this too.

I'm putting this together now 2 have a listen

Sexual Suicide and Girls & Boys are perfect back 2 back

Yes Heaven would have been a perfect ending

No Alexis de Paris?

I always thought A Love Bizarre would have been beautiful in the movie during a party scene

And once I heard (Junk Music) I always have to put Junk Music I II or Do U Want More in it...

.

Yes Parade is a work of art and I agree it moved so fast. Ended way too soon just like the Parade era. Amazing music when you can still feel the freshness of

First song on the Crystal Ball album says... These are the days of Wild

But truly, when Crystal Ball emerged, the days of Wild seemed to have passed

The times of ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT.... those were the true days of Wild

Those were the days when the man seemed to unable to make a mistake in his music

At least for my listening

Everything else has seemed a detatchment from real life

He says he has never left his listeners behind

But his preachiness is better done in the privacy of friends

I would rather the music go back to the intimate roots of those days

Stop trying overreach politically, and theologically

Sing about real relationships again, and real feelings.

(also, don't brag so much in the music, no one buys that shit)

We are all so full of doody here

Yeah but then it becomes Sign O The Times... a double album, a magnus opus... it would change the spirit and dynamic of the album entirely. Sometimes less is more. I see where you're coming from... so many great tracks could have been there (those you've added but also Alexa De Paris or Splash or Others Here With Us or Mountain's extended version)...

But I think Parade is just one of Prince's most perfect album as a whole, it's more than the sums of its parts, it is perfectly balanced as a work of art: any change in tracklist or length could endanger this fragile, perfect balance.

+ to me it's a bit like saying Emancipation would have been better as a simple album, I think it's such a strong denial of the very essence of the project that it makes little sense.

"Parade" is one of the great musical experiences of my lifetime, and an album I will go back to for the rest of my life.

It's forever fresh and original and a true work of art. Maybe "you had to be there" in 1986 when it came out to fully understand.

(The mind blowing "Parade" experience bought Prince a "lifetime pass" with me-- otherwise I don't know why I would continue to buy albums from a person who puts out "Plectrum Electrum" or "MPLSound".

That's true nod I agree with your post.

On another note, I usually see people add "Others Here with Us" on to their Parade playlists.. I never really thought it clicked with this era (even though it was recorded at the same time). I think maybe it's a little gothic for an album/era like Parade

it's a good album..won't say masterpiece though... An instrumental portion of the track was included as background music in the Under The Cherry Moon movie, in a scene where Tricky and Christopher Tracy are arguing.

Good taste is seldom innate, you have to be exposed to a lot of music, classical, ethnical, and good ol' rock'n'roll. It takes a lifetime.
Aside from opinions, there's musical culture.

So fuck democracy, fuck diplomacy.

You good sir, must listen to the entire Beatles catalog and know it by heart before you can deem CTP "stupid".

The piano solo in UTCM is a lesson in minimalism. All comes from the silence in between the chords played, not the chords themselves.

Do U Lie is a miracle which Skipper was clever enough not to rehash, in his whole career (and God knows it's a vast catalog). His best Macca impression.

And Venus de Milo, is a state of grace. Displace one phrase, there would be diminishment, as Milos Forman's Salieri would say. Prince and Clare were a match made in heaven.

Underdeveloped? That's like saying the studio version of 4 The Tears In Your Eyes lacks big fat snares and heavy metal guitars.

Parade is the ultimate musical crossover.
Special Thanks to Joni, Lisa and Wendy, and probably the whole Revolution to make Skipper want to be an european. Classical strings, accordions, voozaytraybell and all that jazz.

I mean, when he got tired of it, when he thought it was time to be a 100% american again, we got Graffiti Bridge and Tony Mosley. Ugh...

Luckily, Batman had him still a foot into Lovesexy.
