the last song on MPLSound is No More Candy 4 U which is a song critical of certain pop stars. Then, the first song on 20Ten is Compassion. So, I think it was very deliberate to present another point of view about not being judgmental of others. It's the same thing with Baltimore & Free Urself. Baltimore is somewhat of a protest song based on the "no justice no peace" chant. Free Urself is about bad mindsets in particular related to the protestors & rioters over police brutality because that also stemmed from disenchantment with the government. Basically saying that a changed mentality is needed & don't have wrong thoughts in your head that disempower & hold you down. Now, by making Colonized Mind the purple pick of the week, it is back to political criticism which I think further proves that Free Urself is about what I am suggesting it is.

Yes. I also read that 'Sexy MF' was about the Cuban Missile crisis. hence the 'shakin' that ass!'-line, which was a reference to South American dancing.

And Tony M's 'if you threw that ass into the air, it would turn into sunshine'. Nuclear radiation baby!

No, really, the times they are coming to an end.

It would be kind of an OK song if this was a late eighties unreleased track.
But putting this shit out at 57 years old?
This kind of phony adolescent attitude?

He's still chasing teenagers while approaching 60, and it's getting real gross.

Not only do teenagers ignore him totally
(it would be better to get at least some rocks thrown at him),
but he succeeds on embarking all of you on this
retro nostalgic slightly 60's vibe.

Hint it sucks : Most of what can be read on this, and on HnR,
is how many times people have to "give it another listen"
to start appreciating it.

I'm sure after 20 times I could find some qualities
to Susan Doyle. Except there are (real) young talents on fire out there,
and they deserve my time more than Ol' SKipper rehashing
the same fucking boring theme over and over again.

When these are times are calling for some kind of SOTT the song pt. II,
he comes up with this bland hippie shit, which exsudes the usual paranoia :
We're the Purple Army, we will show them the light,
one day they (whomever they may be) will open their eyes
and see the truth (whatever this may be — oh wait, JW's!), blah blah blah...

I think I'm going to jump ship soon,
as many other brilliant orgers did before me.

The org is slowly turning into a fucking kindergarten.
Or a retirement home, which is pretty similar.

Bye bye! lol

No -- stay Bonatoc, it's not as juvenile as you make it out to be and you don't want your last Prince song as a fan to haunt you forever with that freeeee, free yourself chant, too ironic.

Oh how I wish he'd put out something above m'kay.
It's not that "Free Urself" is bad, it's just an anachronism.

Marz is plenty sophisticated, fresh — musically and lyrically — accessible to young hipsters, bboys, and old foggies who see the foolishness psychology behind what undermines success among too many young people, black et at. The song just moves ferociously as Prince brilliantly migrates through rock/punk/rap. Tragically, it's just way too short.

Can Christ Jesus be held down in bondage? I wonder, if he couldn`t be held down by death and hell then.I don`t think a woman or man has that power to hold him back now if it be said today. He was never born of a bond woman. He`s the Saviour of ManKind. Amen

I hope a song you like comes along. I've been enjoying AOA and most of HnR, and a track like this is more about his musical roots so it's a nice change of pace and that's ideally what Prince is all about.

so why do people use Jesus Christ as a curse? i assert it indicates the spiritual state which the Bible describes fallen humankind to be in (enemies of God) & because Jesus Christ is the express image of God. The good news is that is precisely when He was sent & given to die for our sins to reconcile us to God. It's the exact fulfilling of the commandment by Jesus: "love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you." Be reconciled to God by receiving forgiveness / redemption through His blood & the gift of salvation / eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord which means peace with God & justfication / imputed righteousness. link

In Canadian French, most curses are coarsely-pronounced variations of mass-related words: Christ (crisse), tabarnacle (tabarnak), host (communion waffer -ostie), chalice (câlice).

You'd be transfixed.

Isaiah 53 King James Version (KJV)

1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

I think I figured out who the backgroung singer is on the latter part of the song. Sounds like Liv's old back-up singer who's been rehearsing a lot with his band lately.

.

This song is still my favorite thing he's released since Groovy Potential.

The just needs theHornz, all those little synth flourishes will be better executed by trumpets, 'bones, tenor and base saxes and maybe a few clarinets and flutes. I bet that version is just sittin in the vault itching to come out.
