Musicology vs Diamonds & Pearls. Although the Diamonds & Pearls album is most popular i am starting 2 lean towards the Musicology album. What do yall think?

Like them both for what they are I always thought Musicology was an updated version of the D&P formula which was an updated version of the Prince album formula. Meaning it was a well calculated record designed to sell records. minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

I like them both about the same. that's a good question because they're kind of similar and I never really noticed before. I guess I'd give a slight edge to D&P just because of "Live 4 Love" and "Gett Off.

I love the big hits from DAP........ they are essential to me, therefor my answer is DAP: Prince 4Ever.

Diamonds and Pearls has some pretty annoying tracks.
Musicology only has one, Life of the Party.
Otherwise it's a pretty solid offering. The title track, IFWTMIYL/The Marrying Kind, What do U Want Me To Do, Dear Mr. Man, Cinnamon Girl, Reflection. Call My Name, On The Couch. Those songs are great Prince tracks,
Diamonds and Pearls is more like two thirds of a decent record, the Tony M stuff is thrice as annoying as Life Of the Party and the hits are enticing but conventional.

I think it's fair to compare these two because both are Prince going mainstream in order to get the big audience back. But musically, it's no comparison. Musicology has tighter grooves, catchier melodies, better lyrics, is shorter and has no rap and P on most instruments. On this album he is doing what he does best while on D&P he was trying way hard to be hiphop. The only good thing I can say about D&P is that the tour was good.

I always thought Musicology was the D&P of the 2000's (But only clean lyric wise.). A mass pop/soul/funky throw down meant to appeal to the masses. [Edited 11/10/15 10:18am] 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment
