What do your dear ones think of HitNRun?

Today, I put HitnRun on in the living room, rather than in my secluded computer room/library.

You guys scared me enough about what a non-fan would think but to my surprise...

My honey likes the whole thing and four songs in particular.

His comment: "What's the median age at the Org? (I don't know, I said easily 45 to 50) "They won't get this -- too old!"

Did you have any friend or family members tell you what they think of HitnRun or were you just too scared to play in front of anyone?

Ageism goes both ways. Sure. it's normal for the older and wiser to feel vastly superior, but you only need to think about your parents to know older folks worship older music while the young thrive on cheap grooves just like you and I when we were puppies.

lol

seriously though, i had you pegged to be about mid to late 30s aero.
so either your honey is young of heart or you've got a bit of a green

leaf there razz

on the other hand, you're probably 24 years old since i'm terrible at

guessing people's age even if they're right in front of me, let alone

on the org, just through someone's posts smile

but ok - what do my dear ones think of HitNRun? i've learned a long

time ago not to play prince in front of friends because they simply do

not get him. they'll either be lukewarm (which is being polite, lol) or

simply say they don't like it. no matter how good it is.

that's friends. other people, i don't even bother at all because frankly

my favorit songs get enough abuse on the org, i can do without them

being made fun of by strangers who overhear me listening. because,

you know, occasional folk will even say something horrible about say
"mountains" which then lingers in your mind for ages.

these days i enjoy prince all by myself smile well, and with you guys.

I'm 53 and he's 60. He's in great shape and barely looks 48.

Most of the time, he calls Prince "Princess" but not tonight.

And ageisms/generalisations from you now. I don't feel vastly superior and I don't consider myself any wiser than my younger friends. And I've never thrived on cheap grooves, thanks.

And given that you and your partner I guess fall into the more mature category of Prince fan, it's a bit disappointing that you suggest that other 'oldies' are somehow different to you and how you appreciate Prince's current output.

same thing used to happen when i still lived with my parents. my mom always learned

the lyrics to new songs pretty quickly.

i still chuckle though whenever she's feeling all 'hip and happening' and sings stuff like
"these are the days *go* wild" smile

she hated "musicology" though because it spooked her with that opening scream, and
she used to say it sounded like prince was changing a dirty diaper, going "eeeeeew" lol

The family loves it, 3 year old, 17 year old, 35 year old and me the geezer (45). Age got nothing to do with it. My 17 year old loved AOA, he's an old school rap fan, but after being introduced to Purple Rain (the movie) last year, he got what Prince is all about and he's digging it. My wife and son get me keen on the hip hop and I poison them with Prince fever. All good for all ages.

btw - I'm having fun with H&R, so for me it requires no musical dissection nor further scrutiny, that's what it's about. Professional, amateurish what not. I don't care, it's all about being there. And, it's a Prince album like any other.

So a 60 year old thinks a record is for a younger crowd after asking about the Org's median age and he's ageist?

It's nothing like that.

my 5 year old loves the first four songs, but "Shut This Down" is his stank-face, head-bobbin' favorite so far. After that, he loses interest a little, but stank-face returns with "X's Face". Wife thinks the same thing your man thinks; she likes it but thinks it will appeal to a much younger crowd, not those of us that want him to create something like his former self. She has stated with each of his previous albums for the past 5 years that she thought he was stuck in the 80's but this one sounds fresh and completely danceable. I'm paraphrasing, but that was the jist of her comment after listening tonite.

I was playing it at the store today. Played it twice all the way through and had 4 different people at different times ask what I was playing. They all 4 liked it and wanted to buy it. Its funny also because apparently none were big Prince fans and were surprised that was even still making music. I got their name and numbers if by chance this is released to stores like it is supposed to. Our music distributor does not have it slated for this week so I don't know if this is an amazon item only or if a particular store has an exclusive? Not really sure but so far people like it at least here.

My wife is a long time Prince fan and has only heard the first few tracks of the new album. She said it wasn't as bad as she expected, but only because she likes "x-factor shite".

I've found the same with the first 4 songs - my daughters (9&2) love them. Especially Million $ Show, probably because it sounds like Beyoncé doing a Disney special.

My boyfriend, who is a far bigger Prince fan than me, hates the album. Absolutely hates it. My brother, who is 18 likes the songs I don't like (like a mack, ain't about 2 stop, shut this down) and dislikes the songs I do like (1000 xs and 0s, fallinlove2nite, hardrocklover). My mother, who claims to like prince, thinks it's shit. And my sister wouldn't even listen to it cause she's a bitch razz

My 16 year old daughter took a liking to "Ain't About To Stop". She was like, "I like that one. That one is pretty cool." She did later note that she thinks it's funny that Prince is trying to sound "young". biggrin

I made my wife listen to it today while I cleaned the shower. (It was the second time I made her listen to it.) She was NOT happy. She thinks it's Prince's weakest album. For context, she REALLY liked AOA. Probably more so than any new Prince album that's been released since we got together (2001).

My 4-month-old daughter pooped the first time she heard it. But today she seemed to enjoy it while she did some tummy time.

This album is the perfect one for this thread and question. The responses are fascinating. I played a few snippets for wifey and she was pretty positive which horrified me to be honest. For years I've played "the good stuff" and she's uninterested unless it's raspeberry beret, purple rain, cream or manic Monday. Then this pop throwaway album and suddenly she likes it. I don't know what to make of this situation to be honest. confused
