how many Movies did Michael Jackson make? how many artists did he write, compose, produce and make money for? how many women did Mike turn into stars, on the strength of some dick and hit records? how many state of the art recording studios were built for Mike? why Mike started changing his facial features when the pretty nigga from Minneapolis burst onto the scene? why Mike sister chose to go to Minnealolis to save her career?..why she just didnt go to Neverland Ranch for some hits? cmon man...

why would all of this matter when the initial question posed was if any of the great ones have a worse album than HNR. Sure Prince is more of a producer than MJ but does that really matter when you judge the quality of an album. Prince could have used more than often help and creative input

from other producers and songwriters to improve the quality of his product but has chosen not to because of his ego.

Unlike MJ, Prince has never shown his capacity of working with talented established producers who aren't YES people.. and that's a major flaw for him if you ask me.. that's why you get Joshua on this album instead of better producers who would jump on any occasion to work with Prince

let's not turn this into another MJ vs Prince thread.

The question is broader is than that.

"George Clinton Presents Our Gang Funky" is very weak.

Funkadleic's First ya gotta Shake the Gate on the other hand has a ton of great stuff (along with a few snoozers) The title track features a didgeridoo and is still funky!

Some great tracks on First ya gotta Shake the Gate

also some bad ones but overall nice album

Bowie has had two really bad albums in 'Tonight' and Never let me down' Athough there were some great songs on it eg. Loving the alien and 'Never let me down (title track).' THe last few bowie albums have been amazing. His career has been far more consistant then prince and Bowie pulled himself out of the 80's rut he got himself into. in the 90's he was a ruthless experimenter. Then he went into a more mature sound in the 00's. Prince could do the same.

Bowie has a ton of bad albums.. His last few though have been amongst his best. I dont listen to the others to have a point of view on their music.

I personally would add Black Tie White Noise and Outside to that list, and I'm not really a fan of the Tin Machine albums either. Earthling onward though I love. I would agree that he's much more consistent an artist, but he's always been a much more steady/grounded/normal person than Prince in general outside of his heavy drug use days.

Change it one more time..

serious question..

Stupid ass question. They all have had major missteps. And they release one album every five years.

What is your lame point? That Prince is not on their level?

Hitnrun is a great album in my opinion. I rank it in the top ten. I love it!! I am really surprised it gets so much hate here. Well, then again it seems like Prince fans here hate everything he has done since the 80s so I guess its no surprise. Its a great album. People should really take it in and give it a chance. Its funky as hell!!

The album is getting good reviews.

Who? USA Today? Don't they openly solicit good reviews like advertising depending on how much you want to spend?

Come on homie...We know u hate the album....But u gotta chill with projecting your views on all creatures great and small....lol

On the real, this new album is perplexing as hell to me. One minute I'm looking at my computer like what the fuck is this bullshit??? Turn it off..... and the next I'm like, holy shit, the old man still has it ("June," amongst a few others, particularly stand out...)...Oh yeah....as to USA Today being in the tank for Prince, it looks like there's a lot of outlets kissing P's ass (jokes...)...

I've seen positive reviews from the LA Times, ESPN's Grantland (they are usually snarky as all hell when it comes to their music coverage), The Atlantic, EW, Consequence of Sound, The Heights, The Guardian and more giving good to very positive reviews for HitNRun. Only Pop Matters and Pitchfork (to a lesser degree) gave this album highly negative reviews....

All this to say, Prince fans/listeners are a weird, eclectic bunch....

MJ was produced by other folks his entire career....never understood the comparison between the two...Prince could do what MJ did...MJ couldnt do what Prince does/did...

Not true.

He produced a lot of songs by himself without outside producers.

Prince can do what MJ did huh? Is Prince one of the greatest dancers of his generation revered by the likes of Fred Astaire? Did Prince single-handedly revolutionise the genre of music videos? Could Prince hold 80,000 people in the palm of his hand with just a single spotlight and his God-given gift? No, no and no.

Prince is actually considered one of the greatest dancers of his generation. But you can have that one.

Music videos? Those things MTV doesn't even play anymore? I'll take Purple Rain and Sign o the Times over Thriller and Moonwalker. But you know what? You can have that one as well.

80,000, spotlight, and god given talent? You tell me who put on a better Super Bowl performance than P? Beyond that, Prince can not only rock any venue MJ could, but he could also toss the electric guitar, grab his acoustic guitar and then entertain a small cafe of locals by candlelight with NO ONE else around. THAT, to me, is what has given Prince the biggest edge over Mike.

Look at what Bowie is doing now. He is hidden away, only speaking when needed and hiding again. He did a genius thing with 'the next day' after people thought he was dying. When interviewed he always came across as eloquent and answered questions but still maintained this stand-offish aura about himself.

I get people saying to me, Prince is weird, Bowie is weird. But are they? They are just doing something different. Thats not weird. It makes for more interesting things. I jsut think that prince needs to stop being a kid. thats all.
