Worse than I expected it to be and I wasn't expecting it to be good.

His worst album to date by a landslide.

Is this the first Prince allbum which doesn't feel or sound like a Prince album?

Maybe now all those who desired for him to work with a producer can stop asking for that now. I know they'll say, anyone other than Josh, but this is the reason I never wanted a 3rd party producer in the first place. I want my prince albums to sound like Prince albums damit. lol

And I was happy with young Mr Welton prior to this. It's just too full on, too many sounds, too loud and too badly mastered, sounds clipped to buggery. Some of it's ok, but we need more than some of it to be ok on an album that's only 38 minutes long to start with. Or maybe the brevity is a blessing in this case!

Actually I think my view is being blighted by the first 3 tracks, I probably like everything from Like a Mack onwards. Even though I feel like I shouldn't like Like a Mack. I think it's because of the line at the start, "that's why I never let a man pick out my clothes", if I was your girlfriend woul you let me? cool

That was my first impression: it doesn't sound like a Prince album.

.

I really like AOA but on this he's stepped back too much and its Joshified to the max. He's done a good job on 1000 Hugs & Kisses and Hardrocklover but thats about it. Its good he's always trying new and different ideas but this doesn't even feel like an album with the remixes. I like Clouds but this Mr Nelson remix is completely pointless.

.

The 'clipped to buggery' bit made me wince

"Here" alone is better than anything on HitNRun.

And then you have Dance 4 Me, Better With Time, Ol Skool Company, No More Candy. I've always had a soft spot for MPLSound.

Sadly, and amazingly, this album IS worse than MPLSound to me. I never thought I would say that.

MPLSound was pretty good IMO.
Ok, it starts off a rocky, bad start with the first track. But then it goes in Chocolate Box which is a cool track.
Dance 4 Me, Ol' Skool Company and even the laughable Valintena is all good songs. Dance 4 Me being the best out of all of them. I'm kinda meh on the ballads because 3 of them and they're boring especially playing one after another.

I've always loved No More Candy 4 U. He should do more songs like that

MPLSound was probably his last album I could listen to from beginning to end..Hit NRun might be the first album I skip entirely, starting with this Tidal BS, then this whole shenanigans with this Josh bromance...I don't even know what trip Prince is on nowadays.

Blank opinion. Long as there are up to 5 songs I'd replay then its considered a good album. Best be some funk on there. Weird purple funk. Excellent if some of them give me chills.

WALP!

Looks like i didnt quite get that ...it's okay. No chills given.

At the end of the day all I want is to hear my baby sing and play.

Josh is good enough, not unique or inventive, but good enough, so let's see....we could be pleasently surprised.

^^^^^so that was my expectation, and indeed i'm pleasently surprised. joshs production isnt unique or inventive but it does fit into todays commerical landscape, so thats a big win.

hitnrun does a way better job than rebel heart inmho.....

Oh, for fucks sake, I keep listening to it. There's not one track I need to skip.

Last album I didn't skip anything on was... Err... Damn! it's the Rainbow Children. Now, I'm not saying this is better than all the albums since then, not by a long way but every one of those albums along the way has at least one track which I can't stand.

The only bit I really can't stand is near the beginning of Ain't About To Stop, there's that little Arabian bit and then it goes full on for about ten seconds. Horrid. I might be able to edit around that.

Seems that this isn't something I should to listen to on the train to work when I'm supposed to be asleep. lol
