Prince statement on working with the Revolution again.

“You know people always ask me… ‘Why don’t I get the Revolution back together?’ ” Prince pauses, then turns and smiles. “But, I mean…for what?”

Ouch.

This should once and for all answer folks questions about Prince reuniting with The Revolution. He likes working with new collaborators and that's fine with me. What the Revolution did was great and legendary but part of what makes Prince is his search to work with new musicians that can inspire him to try new ideas and soak up their energy.

Welton says he makes his beats with melody in mind first. And his music proves that. Listen to Art Official Age’s “Clouds,” “U Know,” or the dreamy ballad “Way Back Home” and you will hear memorable piano lines that make perfect marriages with Prince’s yearning, multi-layered balladry. OnHITNRUN though, the melodies are more slaves to the rhythm, an orientation not unfamiliar to say, a good contemporary club remix. More than one of the songs on HITNRUN actually are remixes.

Very interesting article. The way they talk about the album, though, makes me think that some people's heads are going to explode on Monday... Personally I don't know what to expect. It's a shame that there are only 10 songs, especially with one being a remix...

I think he is right... A Revolution reunion would be just nostalgic...

As long as he is hungry for new music, he should try to create somthing new and

apparrently he takes some inspirations from Josh...

Nice article...seems we get a industrial Prince album...

Means not that i think to remix this could be us and put it on a new album is a good idea wink

Prince is right. Rebooting The Revolution makes no sense.

Even though I thing 3EG has run its course, I can appreciate what he's doing and why he's doing it....and you know what, if this is how we get Prince out of his own box...I guess we dont all have to love it, but he is trying to find new sounds in the new landscape (they're new to him anyway) so it could be awhile before the Prince magic happens with josh --- but he's attempting to stretch in ways new to him.

So basically Welton is remixing Prince's music, i.e. Rave's remix album

after reading that piece, i wouldn't be surprised if remixes for FixUrLifeUp or Boytrouble
are on the album. it all sounds rather bleak right now smile

Great article. Pretty informative actually. I think it's great that P still continues to push himself & is still releasing new music. He seems inspired again. Before Josh came on the scene we hadn't had an album for 4 years. I'm well hyped for the new album. Bring it on...

What I found MUCH more interesting when he said,"my assistent is from Ethiopia and when you go there, you hear special things". Has he actually been to Ethiopia?! Music from that country is unique, I would love him to put some African flavor in his music.
As for HitnRun, looks like it is going to be a dance record... Not really my style, but I can hope for an Ethiopian jazz style album.

I feared the album would have a number of remixes.

So we know it opens with a sample of For You, has This Could Be US, Breakfast Can Wait also sounds like it's on it and maybe Josh has just worked on the original 1000 Hugs And Kisses.

I would guess this is why the track list has not been published.

I'm 26, only one year older than the "amazing" Joshua Welton. Nice strawman, though!

Ditto to your last comment :/ I've been nervous about it for a bit. But on the other hand, we havent seen Prince this stoked for an album release since who knows when. It will definitely be interesting. More HARDROCKLOVER, less PlectrumElectrum (the album as a whole lol, not the track, which was awesome)

I think they're both great tracks, but do we really need yet another Breakfast Can Wait remix.

To be honest I like the isntrumentals on Clouds and U Know... Everything on AOA get's a little stale at the end, some good songs, but nothing special...

Prince would work with the Revolution again just because people expect him not to - he's a contrarian.

.

I don't really see peopl asking for this though, does anyone really care about it? I know some people would like to see him collaborate (as in REALLY collaborate) with Wendy & Lisa again, but I don't see what benefit is gained by playing with the Revolution as a band other than nostalgia. And we all know the real reason is Prince's vanity - he doesn't want to be fronting a band with people his own age range.

Do you think there is some music that he couldn't release without them, like when he wanted to do the Roadhouse Garden album?
