who do you think is still clearly influenced by Prince?

I would go as far as Massive Attack.

If there's a field where Prince changed the game for ever, it's the way records are made. He teached every musician how to get rid of the studio, or, to be more precise, that the studio was not a necessity. "1999" is the definitive proof that you can make a great album at home, on your own.

Hence all the EDM artists owe something to Skipper, I believe.
Every piece of music that has hints of DIY should be judged against "Purple Music".

It was before he was a star, and realised it was after 2000 when he became a star and changed it to 3000

4. Bruno Mars (He plays piano and writes ballads) but the drugs and the other shit are not Prince

5. Lady gaga (Borrows of Madge, MJ and Prince)

6. Harts (Australian Artist)

7. Andy Allo

8. The Time

9. Carmen Electra (She did not succeed under Prince, but Prince did discover her)

10. Macy Gray - Had a great soul album with Princey erotic touches in some of the other tracks.

Honestly I would say that Sinead O'Connor was possibly ruined by covering NC2U. I much prefer her other hits 'Mandinka' and 'Emperor's New Clothes', as well as a slew of other non-hits. I don't think NC2U was her style of music - at all.

Janet Jackson. Prince doesn't fire Jam and Lewis and she has no career.

I'd argue against the posters who site Kravitz and Maxwell. While both may count Prince as an influence, Kravitz is heavily influenced by the Beatles, Led Zep, early 70's soul artists, . . . Actually, he has a ton of influences and would have been around Prince or no Prince. Maxwell is a straight up classic soul/r&b vocalist and Prince or not , he'd be doing what he does and doing it just fine.

I agree--but while I liked the songs I'd heard from the first album, I didn't buy it until after I bought I Do Not Want...--and I bought that because of NC2U. And that gave me the entry into everything else, and then moving forward. I'm more likely to listen to almost anything from her besides NC2U, but for me, and probably many other fans, that was the gateway. It made her mainstream (at least in the US), which maybe was never the best thing for her. But I wouldn't say it ruined her.
