Fantastic way to put it!
I'd go Stare over Hardrocklover, but they are both pretty good IMO

Pretty sure I prefer HRL, they're both nice, but HRL is more memorable to me imo.

I'm surprised at how many people dislike Stare. The problem is that people got used to Prince putting out some bland stuff with a gem or 2 in the mix. Now that he's given us a song that is funky, people forget what his funk used to sound like. As I mentioned before, this is remeniscent of 1999 type funk with the bass and synths. Listen to the music and you'll see what I'm talking about. I give everyone that his lyrics have suffered over the years, especially since his Jehovah conversion, but lately he seems to be coming back with some sexuality to his lyrics and not preaching.
Hey, I'm going to stop and STARE! __________________________________________________

"Hardrocklover" - sweet track and reminds me of another favorite "When I Lay My Hands On U"

I don't get Hardrocklover at all. That song does nothing for me. But I enjoy Stare quite a lot. Funny little thing.

I can't pick between them they're entirely different...so for me it depends more on what the rest of the album is like and I can see which one makes the most sense within the scope of the album.

HARDROCKLOVER. Stare is fucking lame.

I dig HRL but STARE wins this one by a country mile.

HARDROCKLOVER. But, dear god, I hope the album has a longer version. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

HardRockLover is miles ahead of Stare IMO. At first I really digged Stare, but right after listening to it, it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Hardrocklover, but I like them both.

Hardrocklover is my fave of the two. It's more exprimental and emotional. I really like Stare though, but it's more of a straight groove. . I prefer The X's Face to both though! Add Baltimore to that (which is just alright musically but has a nice sentiment) and we have 4 tracks from P that I would be really happy with on the new album!

We don't have to choose. You can like both or neither.

That's like asking me which of my kids I like best. if you usually prefer funky Prince you will likely lean towards Stare, if Prince on Guitar punches you in the soul then HRL. I love both Prince's, but I have to give a very slight nod to HRL. That said I am so stoked to have both songs, and am looking forward to the album.
We are so blessed that our guy is still creating music of this calibre after all these years.

How can you even compare these two songs they are so incredibly DIFFERENT from production to song structure.
HARDROCKLOVER is a song to vibe out to especially if you're in the mood to get that guitar turned up, mmm yeahh baby very reminscient to Darling Nikki
STARE one to jam too if you wanna get ur dance & pooorty on! Groove is funky as hell.
whoever said STARE is lame you seriously need to get dem ears checked & get yo mind right
Both are killer, cant wait for this album!! [Edited 8/2/15 13:24pm]

Definitely HardRockLover. I don't think either one are that great, but HRL'r makes me feel as though Prince is getting back to some of his hit making roots.

"Stare" is a decent jam, and I especially like the bass, but "Hardrocklover" totally smokes it.
