The cover art for Hardrocklover So I downloaded the single today from iTunes. I still don't think the song is great. The lines where he screams "make this woman scream". Sound forced and while the song is solid he needs a lead in IMO ...it lacks for context. It's not good enough IMO without that. Just sounds like a demo
But I really had an issue with the cover art for the single. Why is this old dude still trying to confuse people as to his sexuality That person on the cover is a woman with an image of Prince photoshopped over the top. I am 48 years old and at 48 I don't do or think the same way I did when I was 18 or 28 or 38. Prince is still doing the same shit he was doing when he was a kid. What's the difference between this guy and Caitlin Jenner really? His obvious struggle with his sexuality and gender has been such a distraction to his music. It's has cost him millions of record sales and fans People don't have time for the confusion especially when your not cutting edge anymore. Oh and this song has Rhianna written all over it [Edited 7/10/15 20:55pm] Dance... Let me see you dance

What's the difference between Prince and Caitlyn Jenner...? Let's see...one is a legendary musician/composer who has released over 35 albums, produced movies, DVD's, and has performed amazing concerts year after year since 1982. And one is a former Olympian turned reality tv personality who is now tran-gender.

Well, you're wrong about the cover. There's no image of Prince "photoshopped over the top".

It's a bit like Dejavu tbh because I remember reading on here that a lot of people were very confused by the pic of Cat on the back of the Sign O the Times single and couldn't make out if it was Prince or Cat.

Which makes nonsense cuznthat looks nothing like no one. I mean she's got titties...noticible hips...full lips...what about that pic says Prince?

It is weird it looks like exactly the same picture but when purple it looks like prince?
Look at the shape of the mouth and nose and eyes on both! he might have better luck if he was drummin with his Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sense or no sense, it did fool a lot of people back in the day - including, allegedly, Price's dad
I remember picking up the 12" back in 1998 or so and still wondering. Prince image - which is very different now - allowed for that adrogynous uncertainty back then. And she's wearing his glasses, guitar and hair.
Really funny how he sort of did it again - because I admit, I too thought it was Prince on the purple picture.

yeah I also thought it was Prince on the Purple cover I prefer the green cover, he should have used that one instead Welcome 2 The Dawn

So, you don't particularly like the song, feel it needs "context," sounds like a demo... . All valid opinions. Some will agree, some will disagree. .
Your post started trending to the side of intolerance towards the end, though, if you ask me. You sound like the parent of every 14 year old who picked up Dirty Mind or Lovesexy and made them hide the album cover because it scared them. Only in the case of Dirty Mind and Lovesexy, there's a half naked or completely naked man on the cover. For the single you're referring to, it's a woman wearing a dress, sitting on the floor holding Prince's guitar. Is it news that Prince has explored sexuality and his feminine side in his music? He's never hid that from anyone. . I think it's fine to want your musical heroes to grow, or even to grow up. Prince has done some of that in his music. Whether or not his more current music connects with you is a matter of taste and opinion, but the same goes for the Prince of 1978-1988. . I've heard a lot of arguments for not liking Prince and/or his music, but "he's trying to confuse me with the cover for his latest single" is a new one. He's not.
That person on the cover is a woman with an image of Prince photoshopped over the top.
No it isn't.
Yep, making kick-ass music.
One's one of the world's most legendary rockstars, who experiments with androgyny in an artistic way, but is ultimately known for being voraciously womanizing (in the past) and 100% heterosexual.
The other is a former athlete and transgender reality star.
Please. If ANYTHING it's a huge part of what makes his music so interesting. And it's not a struggle - it's an artist decision that has ultimately proved incredibly progressive and inspirational.
You want conservative music, I dunno, go listen to some Ted Nugent or something.
Seriously, tough-guy-macho-heteronormative-power-rock is the most boring shit there is.
I guess you must REALLY hate Camille. |

It is now and always has been a distraction .... It's not about me being conservative. The man is obsessed with the gender thing. Just put the hot babe on the cover and don't distort it giving people the impression it's Prince. It adds nothing to the song and in the end turns on a few who might think that's cool and turns off the masses that can't even hear the music because they can't get beyond his confusing gender bending messages. Militant mentions his 100% heterosexuality then stop looking like damn girl all the time. Put that hot babe on the cover don't do a damn thing to it oh and I'm not dealing with any issues.... Effeminate/androgyous heterosexual guys are a billion times more interesting than macho tough guys.
See: Prince, MJ, Robert Smith, David Bowie, Marilyn Manson.
Prince, if you're reading this thread, please ignore OP and do this MORE. |

Prince, if you're reading this thread, please ignore OP and do this MORE. Please don't ....so your music will be heard. You don't need the distractions. Remember it's about the music. Think about how many people missed out on the message of Lovesexy because of images like that and how confusing they can be [Edited 7/11/15 12:23pm] Dance... Let me see you dance

Yeah definitely not for me but its ok militant we can agree to disagree. I think those images limit his audience and definitely did for what was one of his greatest works ....but no one even heard it. [Edited 7/11/15 12:25pm] Dance... Let me see you dance

It sold 3 million records.
That's more than For You, Prince, Dirty Mind, Controversy, Graffiti Bridge, Come, The Black Album, The Gold Experience, C&D, or ANY post-WB album.
For a guy that's made 40+ albums, to say "nobody heard it" is total nonsense.
It'd be fair to say nobody heard "N.E.W.S" which sold 40,000, or "New Power Soul" which sold 400,000.
