Prince as a multi instrumentalist has hurt his skills as Guitar player?

Do you think prince has hurt his development as a guitar player by tryimg to do everything himself?....Imean lets be honest,he can't stand in the same room as Jeff Beck.Joe Satriani or Steve Vai on guitar.i recently watched an 1980 Prince show and he sounds the ane today as he did then? why hasn't he got better on guitar?

Interesting post. Have you seen Beck, Satriani or Vai change a lot the last 20 years in their playing? Also what do you mean hasn't he got better on guitar. Everyone you mention have their own style of playing and you can't compare them so you indeed cant place them in the same room. Prince has his own unique style of playing and so has Vai or Beck. As to the title of this topic, i dont think so. I think he doesnt feel the urge to compete with others. I see it from a broader prospect: i think he wants to express himself musically and he is able to do this with all kinds of instruments and he isnt limited by only the guitar wink

Prince has a certain feel and sound on guitar which those who know can recognize.

It has certainly held him back from writing any songs as meaningful as Imagine, What's Going On, and A Change Is Gonna Come.

Steve Vai is on record saying that Prince is an amazing guitarist and one of his favorites.

Not a comment on his guitar skills (which are still awesome), but I do think his more recent work suffers from focusing on guitar TOO much.

The question is amusing because I have old guitar magazine interviews where Vai, Beck, and Joe Satch praise P's guitar playing........nice try.

One troll thread, we might turn a blind eye.

Two is pushing it.

This is the third obvious one I've seen you make in the last week. I'm locking this, and I would suggest you not make another one.
