Updated, Prince not only pulled his music from Spotify, but all other streaming sites as well except TIDAL which is owned by Jay-Z... Jay-Z and Prince most likely have an agreement in terms of being allowed to stream Prince's music.

It's on Rhapsody!

... For now... More media outlets on Twitter are saying Prince is removing his music from streaming sites one by one... This has nothing to do with remasters... He obvioulsy struck a deal with Jay-Z's TIDAL.

hmmm so I guess Prince likes and supports TIDAL.I can see why he likes it: the artists own a part of it and get more money.

Eye support prince in anything he does. He is obviously doing this 4 a reason. With the unveiling of his newest "Masterpiece" #HARDROCKLOVER then announcement on the same day removing his VAST catalog from streaming sites.

It's a new movement 4 his MEGA NPGMUSICPUBLISHING.

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Prince doesn't have the power to do that, I'd say.

It must be WB, wanting to re-release everything in time with the announcement that Prince is up for the Nobel Prize.

Not remastered or expanded of course, who'd want that?

he does have the power to do that and just did..

No he doesn't. He made a request, and the services are honoring that request.

Don´t know why he goes through all this trouble all the time, he wasn´t very popular on spotify anyway. His most listened song is at 9 million, as people like Tina turner or tears for fears (who haven´t made music for a long time) are at 3x times that number.

Besides, a lot of his albums were already missing.

I don´t know what is wrong with this guy, i just don´t think he wants his music to be heard.

One of the worst websites ever created, fighting youtube, now fighting spotify.

Cd sales are down low, i can´t believe he makes that much money from it.

I understand a lot of people don´t even know who he is anymore.

Maybe he wants to be forgotten.

I saw his twitter account has 16K followers. thats nothing, really nothing.

Don´t want to be negative, i want him to be a big star, but he really does everything in his power to destroy all he build.

Tidal is a turd sandwich. I buy all my music....but I do stream a lot anyway....so
I'll be sticking with apple music - I like it and it's a solid middle price point

my guess is it's less of an issue of "he likes" TIDAL, and more "he's getting a fatty check for promotion and a limited time exclusivity deal from TIDAL."

Interesting article about how much an artist would make from streaming music services. It would seem, not very much at all.

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/apr/03/how-much-musicians-make-spotify-itunes-youtube

"For example, Spotify says that its average payout for a stream to labels and publishers is between $0.006 and $0.0084 but Information Is Beautiful suggests that the average payment to an artist from the label portion of that is $0.001128 – this being what a signed artist receives after the label's share."

poor Prince when he realises how little sway he has over the world and the people don't join Tidal in droves.

Prince did actually attempt to do that with bootleg CD's some years ago. Not literally knocking on doors but asking people to send them in. lol

RIP sad

Legally speaking I believe you don't 'own' the CD's but licence them. Not that it makes the slight bit of difference.

i enjoy streaming services and have used both spotify and deezer so this is bad news for me....and its bad news for his future legacy as he cuts himself off from his fanbase and younger future fans more and more....streaming music is the future...like it or not...so i hope this is a short term move as i really dont want to have to go to tidal in order to stream prince music..

He drops one his best new songs in over a decade, and then removes all his music from streaming sites.

He giveth with one hand and taketh away with the other biggrin

Seriously though, this is is a real pain. Yes, i own all his stuff on CD, but it's such a pain to convert onto digital and then transfer to phone (not to mention the memory it takes). That's not to mention all the people that don't have his stuff on record - i've introdcued lots of friends to him, by shaing songs.

Seriously disappointing.

sad

Imagine if all artists in every field acted like Prince.

There would be no art anywhere to enjoy, listen to, or watch. Just artists that would give snippets of their music. Painters that would show only a corner of a canvas.

Sane artists share their art, and find ways to share it with the world. What's the point of producing art & denying the enjoyment?

Thank god all painters, sculptors, musicians, etc. don't carry on lIke Prince. What a sad world it would be.

Oh give him time, I'm sure he'll have the #PurpleMinioArmy knocking on doors demanding our physical copies of his music soon enough because how dare we think we have the right to listen to Prince's music that we already bought - for free? lol

He asked sure... But I had the choice to laugh and otherwise ignore his request. Try that with the streaming service and the music is still gone, no? wink

Wrong. I do own the CDs and with that ownership comes a license to listen to them as much as I want as long as I'm able.
