The other day I wanted to listen to certain Prince albums that aren't available anywhere. So I went through boxes in storage to find this or that. In an on-demand streaming content world, searching for particular songs/discs seems pretty tedious.

Sometimes I want to watch some Prince Live on YouTube. It's like Prince doesn't exist. At least there's While My Guitar Gently Weeps which seems to be a constant on YouTube and people can see how great a guitarist Prince is on that.

This is why I have my collection backed up on four different cloud services. If anything happens to my iTunes library, it's easy to recreate. Plus, I can stream or download the stuff I've uploaded. No need to put up with Prince pulling all his shit from streaming services.

He'll be suing them next. On the grounds they're helping you not have to pay him to listen to his music. I bought my own damn personal cloud for just such an emergency, he'll just have to

I mean, it's obvious what's going on here.....Prince has the same gripes Taylor Swift did with Spotify and Apple (until they caved in)....But Prince being Prince, he takes it to another level and makes a deal with the most artist friendly streaming service (TIDAL) while giving the finger to the other services...

There is indeed a debate to be had on whether or not TIDAL is a viable streaming service given it's catalogue is dwarfed by Spotify and the like....But let's not make this out to be Prince going insane...lol....There is a lot of back and forth right now about whether streaming services fairly compensate music artists of all stripes....

It doesn't affect me, as I don't stream. But Prince should definitely be getting more than a ha'penny per stream.

The difference being Taylor Swift has a full functioning, well developed internet and social media presence that affords her fans uninhibited opportunities to still engage, indulge and flatout enjoy her music as they wish to. Prince cuts off his fans nose, to spite.
