Which night was a fun night?

Pick your own. I'm going for the rock aftershow at the Indigo2. Awesome show, so many memories cool

The aftershows at the Indigo were always a great event, the anticipation of whether or not Prince would be there. Then the music starts and the band play for about 3 minutes before the curtain opens and there he is, with his back to us. I still get the chills listening to the boot and hearing the crowd reactions, the memories come flooding back. And then again at about 4:30 when you hear the crowd react again as Prince finally turn to us and sets off on his guitar solo.

There were some real treats in the set list, as there were in many of the Indigo shows, with some songs which I never expected to hear live.

Thank You For Talkin' To Me Africa
Anotherloverholenyohead
Rock Lobster
Calhoun Square
Chaos And Disorder

I Like It There

All Shook Up

Empty Room
Spirituality
Johnny B Goode
Elephants And Flowers
People Get Ready
When Will We Be Paid
Baby Love (Shelby J vocal)
Alphabet St

Guitar

I somehow always manage to forget the Shelby song, the only down side, with Shelby setting a new personal best for most 'put your hands up' in one performance.

I shall always remember the guy next to me who was in awe of Prince being so close to us. The main show had been his first time seeing Prince.

Him : "We're here and Prince is there!"

Me : "Yep"
Him : "But he's right there... And we're, here"

This was repeated a few times We weren't even right at the front, situated nicely behind the rail in the club but it was a great view. It was really nice to see someone new to Prince and loving it.

I walked out of that show feeling that I had no need to see Prince live again anymore as nothing could top that night. Brilliant.

RIP sad

THAT was a fun night. Small room at Paisley. Tiny crowd. I was up near the front. Amazing show.

What The English Gent says about Indigo, that's how I feel about th eMelkweg in Amsterdam 2011, the second night. It was a Monday and the show was announced in the morning, so plenty of time to get there. I had a great spot in the front, no tall people in front of me, met some fans I knew from back in the day. And then Prince opened with What's My Name followed by, among others, The Ballad of Dorothy Parker (he played bass and keys at the same time!) Beautiful Strange, Mutiny, Chocolate, Colonized Mind, in other words, a die hard fan's dream come true. It was my last Prince concert so far and yes, if I never see him again, I'll be alright. cool

One night when I was 16 I brought my first Prince album, the prince album. It was a great night because I wore that cassette tape out and proceeded to get every recorded song that man has created! That was a great night.

Ah, the first album night. Mine was Diamonds & Pearls on CD, so no danger of wearing it out but it was the beginning of a fantastic journey.

Seems such a crazy thing to say doesn't it? Anyone else feel this way?

It could so easily be confused as meaning we don't want to see him again but I hope that you're the same as me in that respect. Always happy to see him again just no compulsion to.

A Beautiful Experience, Paisley Park

This was a fun night. I had been to Paisley Park quite a few times before this night, but this was on a different level. We were able to check out the studios and have a good look around on the main level. Jacob Armen and Eric Leeds were playing in a rehearsal area by the studios. There were a lot of celebrities in attendance for All Star Weekend (basketball for those who don't know).

I was front row in the soundstage. Tony M performed first (I know, I know). I don't remember where this info came from, but it was said Prince was premiering his new band 10,000. Turned out to be the same band, minus Levi. It was pretty much a brand new set list. They premiered the video for The Most Beautiful Girl In the World in the middle of the performance. I'm glad to have the soundboard audio from the show and video for part of it. I can actually see myself in some of the performance footage from the Beautiful Experience tv show.

Interactive

Days of Wild (still my favorite performance of the song)

Now

The Ride

The Jam

I Believe In You

Shhh (Tevin Campbell was in the house)

What'd I Say

Peep the Technique (first time I saw Prince play drums in person)

Martial Law

None of Your Business (Salt n Pepa were in the house)

Lucky MF, must have been awesome.

.

If there was 1 show I'd chose to have been at this would be it. I used to watch The Beautiful Experience video (recorded off UK tv) repeatedly. I managed to get the audio on soundboard not long ago and still love it as much.

I feel exactly the same after seeing him last year on the first Hit n Run tour at Manchester Academy.

.

I'd seen him plenty of times but always in biggish arenas, no aftershows or small venues, so to be standing only a few metres away from him in a small University hall was surreal. I don't mind admitting it was one of the best nights of my life. The set-list was great, a mixture of new and rare-ish songs and not so hits heavy. I've got a decent boot of it, its great to look back on and I'd recommend it.

He came back the UK in the May for Hit n Run part II (arena tour) and I could only get nose bleed seats so I didn't go as I knew it would never top the Academy show and I'm not sure I'd rush to see him do an arena show again.

Oh wow, this show has special memories for me too. Not that I was lucky enough to be there but it was the first bootleg I ever got. I had been into Prince for a coupke of years at this point and had been steadily accumulating all the released material. One day I was in a record shop in the town where my then girlfriend lived and came accross this CD, it was in the Prince section titled, Welcome To The Beautiful Experience. It was something I obviously didn't have, so I snapped it up and took it back to hers. She was at work so I put it on and played it loud. I must have played it 4 or 5 times before anyone else came back and it was awesome. I still love that show and play it regularly.

I went back to that shop again and bought another boot. I don't remember what it was but when I got to play it, it sounded like utter shit. A terrible audience recording which I couldn't quite believe. At that point I hadn't really contemplated the fact that someone would bother putting something out on a CD which wasn't up to scratch. I took it back and got a refund but swam in the bootloeg waters with great trepidation after that sour experience.

Quite jealous that you were there as it will always be such a special show to me. My Prince journey had already been a great one but the road into the bootleg world has offered up treasures which I could never have dreamed of back then cool

Yes, a great show. I considered going up for it but after the chaos at the first Electric Ballroom show I really couldn't be bothered! Those early 3rdEye shows were pretty special, it's a shame that they've gone more hit orientated lately but I guess that's the nature of the beast.

I think I shall play this show on lunch break today cool

It was/is a great show. It was mainly invited guests that were there. My friend was a member at Glam Slam and she new a lady that worked at Paisley Park/Glam Slam. She had some tickets for the event and they were $100. Seems like a bargain now.

I've been lucky to see Prince live since 1984 and loved when he would play new music from the new album at a show, it makes me enjoy the album more. Unfortunately since about 1997 the focus has been on rehashed old songs. I'm loving this 3RDEYEGIRL phase though, for the most part.
