If you could have one live performance in soundboard quality, what would it be? If you could have any one Prince live performance in soundboard quality, what would you choose? I have a two-way tie: The 1986 First Ave concert and the 2007 "rock aftershow" with Josh and Cora (see http://www.princevault.co..._2007-am). Those concerts are fucking amazing. My second place goes to the show documented on 4 Those of You on Valium. What's your vote? "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

My vote goes to either San Francisco 5/23/86 or Detroit 6/7/86.
Honorable Mentions: First Avenue 3/8/82 or First Avenue 3/3/86

Good picks though. Not sure what I'd go for though. The 2007 rock show was awesome, I was there and would love a perfect soundboard but I don't think I'd use that if I had just one pick. There are a couple of boots which are pretty damn good, so I'd have to go for something which isn't doing the rounds in decent quality. What the hell that would be though, I don't have a clue. RIP ![]()

For me it would be a tie between:
11 April 1997 | Los Angeles, CA | Pantages Theatre (my first Prince concert) 29 April 1997 | San Diego, CA | RIMAC Arena (my second Prince concert) If a man is considered guilty

the first that springs to mind would be the accoustic night at he celly 2002 as its one of his most different performances. for similar reasons then ronnie scotts 2014 and the jazz instrumental set he did a the aladdin dvd premier
however i'm sure there are a few paisley park shows that would be great too, such as ones we've never heard recordings of at all. it would be great to have the full show with the war on it for example
and it would also be great to have a recording of one of the pre "prince" shows from when he was a teenager doing cover versions

Unique: You may get your wish sooner than you thought!
For me, it would be the November 7, 2000 show. 1st of the Hit N Tour tour of the era. Here's the setlist. It was the first performance of When Will We Be Paid and it had a creepy arrangement. He played the Santana Medley, which I loved and had been hoping he would play. And he talked about the election insanity tht was in full swing during Purple Rain. Bush or Gore. After the line "You say you want a leader, but you can't seem to make up your mind" he gave a speech. It was cool. I'd take it in any quality.

The live versions of those songs rocked! Plus he played Vavoom, which was fantastic live. I would love to have those shows. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I'd like the 1986 Birthday show in Detroit.

That's tough. After the 84 First Ave show leaked in soundboard quality (and Montreux '09), I felt like if I never got another soundboard, I'd be fine.

The 2009 show at Paisley Park. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

By that, I mean I consider Ali's last fight as "Cassius Clay" against Sonny Liston (where he won the Heavyweight title for the first time) as the single greatest performance from a boxer I have ever seen. He was sheer perfection that night. A fighter at his physical best. Watching that birthday Detroit show from prince, I get that same feeling. Because if that, I believe it to be the single best all around performance I have ever seen from him. Again like Ali, absolute perfection. My opinion of course. But for me, it's pure fact. Great choice!
