I was excited about the PR Remaster, but honestly it's not keeping me up at night. I have the album, B-sides and quite a few of the outtakes already. The sound levels are not all quite the same, but I know there's software for that if I was really bothered by it.

.

I think for a large portion of the fanbase, Purple Rain is not even our favorite album. It's just the remaster that was more-or-less promised first, so that's where the focus is. It's also the obvious choice for a remaster.

Same thing with concerts. If people would stop waiting in line for hours and jumping through hoops to attend last-minute concerts, then Prince might actually schedule typical tour dates with more advance notice.

.

The 2013 club tour was a disaster sales-wise:

.

Tickets for this – and all (West Coast) shows of the tour – went on sale 22 March, 2013 at 12:00 PM PST. As of Saturday 13 April, the unsold tickets were offered 50% off, with a purchase of two. Disgruntled patrons who bought tickets early at full price were also set up with an extra ticket for free. Both early shows (15 and 16 April) sold out eventually, but the late shows did not. In a last attempt to get the show sold out Prince donated 200 tickets (2 x 100 for both late shows) to charity. They were given to Portside Pub owner Mark Brand to sell via his restaurant Save-On-Meats and sold at $50 on Monday 15 April, with the proceeds going to charity.

.

Not that it being announced ahead of time had anything to do with it being less than a success.

@SoulAlive that is nice release. Must have.

Muss haben!!

FWIW: P should quietly stop releasing the old albums and issue these only in remastered form sans bonus or whatever.

This causes the least amount of fuzz.

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Meanwhile fucking hippie Grateful Dead fans get an 80 disc box set. EIGHTY DISCS. "80 CDs with 30 complete, previously unissued shows, one from each year of the Dead's touring life." From a band where there's already a ton of free concert recordings available.

check out what the Isley Brothers are releasing in a few months.....a massive 23(!!) CD box set featuring damn near all their albums, remastered with bonus tracks, including an entire unreleased live album from 1980!

This is exactly what I mean.....how many fans do they have left to buy this up? I don't know about you guys but it is important to me that Prince is recognized through sales as well. I know he already is rich enough, but I don't ignore when he puts new album out, I buy them all becuase I want to support what he does. I don't think he realizes how many of us are doing this type of thing. Trying to make up for pirates and those who don't appreciate how gifted he is. I always wanna see his albums hit the number 1 spot. I screamed when 3121 hit number 1, that's how important it is to me that he is recognized. He MUST put the Purple Rain remaster and unreleased tunes out now, while they will still have an impact. He's very good at cleaning up the bootlegs and material that is available, so do that, charge a premium for the re releases, and show respect for the gift of talent he was blessed with at the time.

Again, do you think Prince cared much for the new James Brown songs as much as the old stuff? He himself speaks of EWF's 'September' because THATS what he wants to hear, not the new shit that isn't as inspired.

Because those box sets are quite expensive. And how much of that money really goes to the artist?

If only he could have re-negociated this... OH WAIT.

Well.... maybe 20 years after prince dies we'll get an 80 disc box set as well shrug

The problem is,Prince doesn't want his fans to celebrate or focus on his past.He only wants us to focus on what he's doing now. That's an unrealistic thing to expect from the fanbase. He apparently doesn't like nostalgia but he's forgetting that his old songs and albums is what made him an iconic superstar.Prince never looks at things from a fan's point of view.

That, and the fact that 75% or more of his current live performances are nothing more than music from the 80's. His argument of not living in the past is so flawed I refuse to laugh.

Since someone brought up the subject of Jimi Hendrix and the post death release of his music by his estate, it made me wonder just who it is that will control Prince's recordings when he passes. Knowing our boy, all the masters will be left under the control of a legal team with strict instructions to destroy them.
