So will the deluxe remasters never see the light of day? I know this has probably been talked about recently but what do you guys think? Will we see a remastered album in the near future or has that press release from last year turned into BS? all that glitters ain't gold.

You ever follow what happened with Jimi Hendrix after his death? Imagine that times a million for Prince.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt it'll happen until Prince's death. But I really want him to do it now. His '80s albums are in desperate need of remastering, and would sound 1 million times better if they were. Michael Jackson's two '80s albums, Thriller and Bad, sound flawless in 2015. Prince's Sign o' the Times sounds... well... there was a thread about that already. Maybe do, just not like did before

I've stopped waiting for these remasters. If it happens, great. If not, then so be it.

it just seems like he doesn't really care about his fans. He even said that he has already been there so why redo it, he " lived it already"....obviously showing no regard for how important it is to the people who didn't get to live it, yet they made him super rich. I guess he forgets so many of us were so desperate to hear anything new from him that we would go oUT and buy ANY new vversion of a song he would make, remixes and 12" singles. some of us were kids and spending everything we had to buy it. maybe he doesn't remember being in love with music. He just doesn't understand why it is important, if he did we would all have a perfect 13 minute long version of Computer Blue. It's probably the same reason why he doesn't get why his new music isn't as beloved. ......he thinks it's because we just wanna hear his old music rehashed. .....but no. ....we just want the soul, the power, the anguish and feelings back in it. Colonized Mind is so close for example, but Prince in the 80s would have been screaming that last chorus, would have changed the dynamic of the song by the end. .....he wasn't trying to sell it. ....it was feeling and power! There is no reason he can't be making music like this now except he had no anguish and pain to express anymore, he's a multi millionaire in his fifties who just isn't in touch with that side anymore. It's terrible no one around him cares enough to make sure he isn't eating his talent. Seems like Micheal Jackson had the same issue, he didn't get it but everyone was afraid to say it to his face.MandyFlores

I don't agree with some of your thoughts, but nice to see a detailed explanation of your thoughts.
Comparing a guy in his mid 20s versus himself in his mid 50s will almost always result in a huge dropoff, by most criteria - except possibly mentally.
Has it been discussed if remasters are financially feasible? Whether Prince cares about his fans or not - why remaster an album that may only sell 5 to 10% of initial sells? Is it really worth the trouble?

Sigh... Just stop pressing copies of the old records and issue only the remastered copies. Then the cost is just the mastering as the stampers etc need to be replaced anyways after so many copies. Oh, and the artwork in the jewel case needs to say 'remastered' somewhere. Just do it. Do not add any extra tracks as mr P is too whatever to make a quality product. And let us please get on with our lives after obtaining said remaster(s). Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

The problem is,Prince doesn't want his fans to celebrate or focus on his past.He only wants us to focus on what he's doing now. That's an unrealistic thing to expect from the fanbase. He apparently doesn't like nostalgia but he's forgetting that his old songs and albums is what made him an iconic superstar.Prince never looks at things from a fan's point of view.

If Prince wants fans to focus on what he's doing now, then why does he only play the old stuff at concerts? Because he knows that's what people want to hear. My guess is he just thinks there's more money to be made at concerts than with remasters. Most people who come to see him already know the hits anyway. So what's the point of re-releasing them at a higher price? Because those box sets are quite expensive. And how much of that money really goes to the artist? [Edited 6/3/15 13:54pm]

yeah, but the fans love stuff like this! Look at the excitement that Beatles fans experienced a while back when all of their albums were released in mono and stereo box sets.Hardcore fans live for stuff like this Goes back to what I said earlier.Prince never looks at things from a fan's perspective. And since Prince owns his master recordings,I would assume that he would make alot of money on these.

A question from my side... Will it be beneficial if Prince himself coordinates the remasters?? Can he resist the urge to do "touch up" overdubs or even censoring some rough language, thereby irreversibly altering the multitrack tapes?? [Edited 6/3/15 22:47pm]

. If only he could have re-negociated this... OH WAIT. . Meanwhile fucking hippie Grateful Dead fans get an 80 disc box set. EIGHTY DISCS. "80 CDs with 30 complete, previously unissued shows, one from each year of the Dead's touring life." From a band where there's already a ton of free concert recordings available. © Bart Van Hemelen
