http://www.npr.org/progra...atc/gumby/ "March 25, 2002 -- Art Clokey never had clay actors like Gumby, Pokey, Prickle and Goo in mind when he went to film school. Clokey, who created Gumby 45 years ago, says he can't believe that a clay boy with googly eyes, mitten hands and a lump on his head ended up with his own TV show and top-selling poseable doll." This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Actually the name is McGoo. Prince gave the name to James McGregor, who was an equipment tech for the band in the late 80's to the mid 90's at Paisley Park. Since, he has established a long list of artists whom he has toured with and is in constant demand. Maybe I can get the 411 on how the song PoorGoo came about for ya.
Hope this answers your question.

Hope this answers your question. that's right If Boris is nodding, I'll buy it. And yes, I am kinda intrigued how Poorgoo morphed from McGoo? Thanks Sartoria! (Can't believe y'all had me reading up on Gumby!) [This message was edited Mon Mar 24 0:11:31 PST 2003 by Anji]

James McGregor has nothing to do with Gumby right? Is he related to Mary McGregor the lady who sang Torn Between Two Lovers? "Climb in my fur."

Prince is singing about a girl "poorgoo" who is strung out on drugs, and how she would rather have her "tricks" then "cap'n crunch". The girl is shown laid out like she is hallucinating, while Prince plays his guitar in a very intense, psychedelic manner. He repeats - singing "poorgoo" over and over again while she continues her self-destructive path. In the end her eyes seem lifeless.

I've always liked this song. There's something about the
chords and the way he sings "All the film he shot, yeahhh it ain't too hot" There was also mention of a persona called "MaGoo" or something like it, in that piece of filmscript which surfaced in 1996. I'll have to dig that up one of these days and start a thread about that. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Both Boris and Sartoria are both right. The title of this track from The Undertaker is a loose reference to crew member James "Magoo" McGregor, a friend of the insufferable Game Boyz.
More than likely, "Goo" may just be an abbreviation of the "Magoo" nickname. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

That makes sense, G. I wonder how James McGregor (Poorgoo), an equipment tech, got into Prince's bad books?More than likely, "Goo" may just be an abbreviation of the "Magoo" nickname. .
