Prince needs to fire his Front of House crew Having done FOH work in various live settings, the first thing I'll say is that its not easy. But holy hell, whoever has been doing it for Prince the last couple of years is awful. - Live recordings have been domintaed with Prince saying "turn me up" or "turn the lights on/ off". This would be fine, if he didn't have to say it a thousand freaking times! Montreux 2013, during When Doves Cry, Prince had to tell Donte 5 times to turn the lights off on stage and even then it took well over a minuet to do so. The recent Baltimore concert had some awful mixing problems. Whether you've had a soundcheck or not, you should be able to sort the mix out during the first song, especially since half the instruments are aren't even audable! - Is it not obvious to turn an instrument up during a solo? Or turn the house lights up during a call and response? It seems Prince's crew are either sleeping or have the resentful attention span of a Repuplican at a gay wedding. - Rant over.

Some of it is part of the show. It's done as a hype "Turn me up, Turn me up!" to get the crowd to respond. __________________________________________________

Correct. Not when he's repeting it countless times though. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Yeah I agree. Seen him 4 times last year and the sound was definitely a weak point especially for someone of his caliber. Maybe he doesn't want t to pay for someone decent. [Edited 5/13/15 4:25am] I got two sides... and they're both friends.

From what I've listened to, heard, and read, you are exactly right.

I see this type of thing when people give jobs to their friends or people in the neighborhood that say they can do things but can't. He's probably given the job to someone as a favor, which is almost always problematic in my experience. Change it one more time..

One of the background singers ruined the song "Baltimore" with her horrible "I loooove you, I loooove youu" shouting at the end. [Edited 5/11/15 15:43pm]

Background singer? Give the girl a break, I'm sure she was rattled with nerves as she'd never been on a stage like that before under such pressure Change it one more time..

Although Prince shows are now basically greatest hits tours ( his whole "no more hits" nonsense from 10 years ago has long since been abandoned), He switches up the songs from show to show, and even improvises so much on them that I would find it impossible for anyone to do it without taking verbal ques from Prince. มีเพียงความว่างเปล่า 只有空虚 Dim ond gwacter 만 공허함이있다 唯一の虚しさがあります There is only the void.

I feel like it was almost a joke when every once in a while he would say "house lights on" and nothing woudl happen. It must have happened six or seven times. Then again, the arena is old as dirt. He once opened for Rick James at the same arena if that tells you anything. The Royal Farms Arena crew is probably bare bones. I don't think the guy running the lights was part of his crew. And if he was, he probably doesn't have a job today. The band was tight though. So many youngsters on the stage with him last night. It is seriously like the Prince School of Rock & R&B. But I loved every second of it. They are all in awe of him too. You could tell that much.

Whilst it is true he often changes up the songs, dont be fooled by how much you think it is improvised. He rehearses like fuck. Ive no doubt he rehearses his band in many different takes of the same song ad nausium. They may not know on the night which version they are going to play, but whatever the take, they have rehearsed the cues and on-the-one's hundreds of times. Prince likes to make it look like he is directing his band in improvised genius, but really it is a well rehearsed routine.
