This a lifeless song with lyrics by a first-grader and some nice guitar noodling. And it won't be a hit, neither on the charts or as a protest song. There are just the chants to throw some oil on the fire. It will be great to see new riots,
without people shouting no justice no peace, and then Prince can go on Oprah
and say: "They're singing my song! Auwuh!"
yeah it is a fine song. i like the vocals and the sound and the tempo but they lyrics are weak to down right silly and then one line totally turns off millions of people. I have to say I was seeing postings on other sites about the line about guns and it did not go over well at all. I did a bit of defending bit not much can be said. it was a bad mistake.
I wasn't talking about the 'gun' line, that is something only Americans would take issue with.
'My God-given right to own a gun' - part of me understands this, and part of me thinks:
who were the American settlers? Crazy loners, and people out to get rich whichever way possible. Gun-toting extremists are their descendants.

Musically, the song is plodding. There is no melody to give the song lift so it meanders. Lyrically, it is very cliched. "No justice, no peace", "take all the guns away". I know Prince's heart is in the right place but as a musician, Prince is capable of much more. Glad this song was made available for free. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR |

no it was a hit despite its makeup. I still remember getting the 12" and LOLing at the cover...not sure who it was but it was cool... and putting it on the record player with head phones and i got vertigo... i felt as if i was falling.
Prince was is? a natural at what works...but according to Wendy and Lisa he dosn't know why! He doesn't know music theory...
I sumise that he keep trying too hard to make a hit as opposed to letting it come natral.
Sign O The Times is a very accessible song, I would say. The arrangement may be different, but that was Prince. Definitely 'was', I'm afraid...
I've learnt to ignore his mostly silly covers/cover photos, his silly hair, his silly clothes...

then what ? rioting again for weeks ?
All by design to bring in martial law. Militarize LE further. Federalize LE. Globalist agendas. The borders no longer exist either.. The politicians want people to riot as it will justify militarization and federalization of LE. Take a look at the move to take guns away from the people. All moves to control. It is a cute little song but all this hoopla ain't gonna create jobs. Everyone is suspect, Bono of U2 had some charity that only gave 2% of proceeds back. All the rest going to inflated administrative costs to friends, family and fans that ran the charity. Baltimore will never turn around without jobs, real jobs. The truth is the truth.
Why do some people equate outlawing guns to Nazism? In the state of New York only law enforcement can have hand guns and as far as I know they have not been taken over by steel booted nazis. Neither has Australia, the UK, Switzerland.... With that said I did this song. It's a stripped back soft rock protest song. I like the line about taking guns away, they do more harm than good. Props to Prince for saying what he believes and not saying what people want him to say. I will be playing this song reguarly. Clearly many people do not trust what is going on when they add everything together. With the militarization of LE, federalization of LE, why would anyone want the outlawing of guns? It is plain to see that out politicians are controlled by corporate interests and bankers. The biggest push is to take the guns out of the black community. Lots is happening, things that most people do not understand or care to know about, like the poison placed in the water(hydrofluoric acid), food(aspartame, high fructose corn syrup), the system created to widespread spy on the people(NSA), the social engineering. Ways to slow kill and take out civilization but it will take generations but it is happening. Wish Prince had the mind to write about these situation, at least he is drinking clean water? Right? This government even created ways to benefit corporations to move jobs out of America. People need to wale up and our artists need to as well. At least the song is a try in the right direction. I believe Prince's heart is in the right place but it is more complex. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet? |

if someone says they do not like this song that is not something any of us should take personal. We either like it or not.
And if I do not like a line or two that is not a basis to be called names... And I really do not care how things are in the rest of the world. I do respect and will defend as best I can the rights we have.

Let me be clear on my opinion about Baltimore
I don't think it's amazing, but I don't think it's "crap".
But we have to remember that even Prince ages. Those days where he went into a studio and then came out a couple hours later with a masterpiece are sadly gone. That being said, maybe Joshua W could've helped him with this one [Edited 5/9/15 7:19am]

I would rather hear Prince singing political songs at this point of his career. Sometimes I listen to the old music and cringe when I hear the F word in his music. Thought provoking music is welcomed. I hope he takes it further and does a political, social album. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet? |

That's some bullshit, you can't criticize something if you can't do it better yourself?
So Prince can't be criticized by anybody, unless the person is a musician?
Steven Spielberg can only be criticized by other directors? |

Hans Zimmer put out a song called "Aurora" to benefit the shootings at the Dark Knight Rises showing in Aurora, CO. His song was nothing short of haunting and beautiful, AND its proceeds went to benefit the families.
.
I don't know 100% yet how I feel about the Baltimore song. It's enjoyable, but it's a bit of a throwaway tune. I would buy it though if it was available - to have it, to listen to it, and to benefit the Gray family. |

The song sounds very medicore and save. It's a bad version of Money don't matter.
I like the woman's vocals though and the guitar, but it's really one listen and that's it.
Nothing exciting.

That's right, and it works both ways: unless you're a musician yourself, you can't claim a song is good. For how would you know, right...?
The only good thing about Styles' 'argument' is that all those terrible shows like So You Think You Can Sing would have to be taken off the screen. Because you can't watch them, let alone laugh at the contestants unless YOU can sing and dance and... et cetera.

love the vocals and the style and overall sound of the song.
the fatal flaw is the line "Let's take all the guns away" that is not going to fly...sorry. and it has no place in this song really... what he has done with that line (sang twice) and turned off many that have respect for the right to bear arms.
It is also flat out stupid: who is going to take the guns? Oh the Government! Okay... so they will still have them then? But this is about the government killing people (in this case with out a gun and in the other case the victim did try to take the gun from the cop.) So now ONLY cops have guns! That has to better.
and that silly "if there ain't no Justice..."
I do like the sound...the guitar is lacking but it kind of fits....I wish the bit at the end was a bit lower and more scratchy sounding
over all 3 out of 5
Coming from the UK, it is not necessary for either the public or the police (apart from specialist units) to have guns. |

The right to like or dislike a song does not come with the talent of doing it better yourself. Such nonsense. To me it's a borefest and as a musiclover and a music listener I'm very well entitled to think so.
Music is experienced by a broad audience, not only by people who make it themselves and it's not up to you to tell people off because they don't share your opinion.
You like the song? great, enjoy! Some don't, live with it. The HQ-er formerly known as krokostimpy. |
