BALTIMORE recorded at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, Minnesota onwww.myfoxtwincities.com/s...Jc.twitter. The original recording subsequently became a demo when Prince, that very same night - all alone in Studio A, played all the instruments on an entire new version of the song. The next morning Joshua Welton and Kirk Johnson transferred Prince's tracks in2 Studio B. and mixing began. As the song neared completion at Prince's behest Eryn Allen Kane graciously flew in on a moment's notice and graced the track with her angelic presence.

What's so awful about it?
Nothing remotedly awful about it, just some people who have been waiting a week to say it is.
They thought it was terrible before hearing it and they feel the same after listening to it.
It's a well-crafted, expertly performed song with earnest lyrics and music, with a poppy rock sound that is appropriate for its simple, straightforward message. He didn't set out to impress with a left-field composition like SOTT and send the musicologists among us to their notebooks.
The song is for regular people, not for crazy boot-collecting Prince fans.

i think it was: the idea of prince calling to take the guns away and then SFA mentioned the Fed taking over LE. But whatever... it is a political song (the take the guns away line makes it one and a hot button topic at that)
So again if "let's take all the guns away" who is taking and who if anyone will still have them? then think about it. Is that really want you want to see?
What part of we don't want this thread moved to P&R don't you understand?
Please leave Sharpton over there, thanks. [Edited 5/9/15 6:10am] Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise. |

It's ridiculous and sad how some people are saying "this song is crap". Are some of y'all trained to automatically hate any new song that's put out by Prince? ”The people that will end up defining ‘Hate Speech Laws’ are the very people you don’t want to define the Hate Speech Laws” — Jordan B Peterson |

LOL what a fool! for one the cost of just adding the oversight would be huge... for two think for ONE SECOND he would say that if a republican was in office? Hopefully some will join us over in PR. It is a bad idea and add that up with the push to take guns, feels like Nazi Germany. If people want real CHANGE need to vote in some besides Democrat or Republican. Anyways back on track. The song is calling for no justice no peace. From some of the info leaked out on this case is it another one that will fail? Is it another set up?? Getting people rioting and creating unrest before knowing the facts, with knowledge that the case will set the cops free? So people do riot and the government that is clearly corporate and banker bought off pushes to control LE? Scary times! One of the first steps would be for the people of Baltimore to know who elected officials are and understand how the legal process works. Cops getting off, been going on for 100 years. No peace would mean rioting but change the process and we would be getting somewhere. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet? |

^ this new crap song is in the same category like "RnR LA", another song I have hated from day 1.
I am only speaking what I feel, and I feel bad about crap songs like this..
Ok to say something positive about it:

Why exactly do you feel it's bad?
1. not funky, kind of pseudo music, sounds like crap, very far from "good Prince music" (whatever that is these years)
2. not good pop music either, no melody
3. backing vocals sounds awful "false" to me,
The only kind of good is: the guitar in the middle. Prince 4Ever. |

Yeah!
I am an old fan, I remember what it was like when a new Prince song was released in the 80s early/mid 90s...
Back then I was like everytime, from 1983 up to 1995.......
The problems began in 1996 post- Warner.
(I still enjoy some songs on the albums nowadays, but in general the quality isn't aware like that anymore). Prince 4Ever. |

Sign O The Times was a song for regular people, hence it becoming a hit.
This a lifeless song with lyrics by a first-grader and some nice guitar noodling. And it won't be a hit, neither on the charts or as a protest song. There are just the chants to throw some oil on the fire. It will be great to see new riots,
without people shouting no justice no peace, and then Prince can go on Oprah
and say: "They're singing my song! Auwuh!"

yeah it is a fine song. i like the vocals and the sound and the tempo but they lyrics are weak to down right silly and then one line totally turns off millions of people. I have to say I was seeing postings on other sites about the line about guns and it did not go over well at all. I did a bit of defending bit not much can be said. it was a bad mistake. Why do some people equate outlawing guns to Nazism? In the state of New York only law enforcement can have hand guns and as far as I know they have not been taken over by steel booted nazis. Neither has Australia, the UK, Switzerland....
With that said I did this song. It's a stripped back soft rock protest song. I like the line about taking guns away, they do more harm than good. Props to Prince for saying what he believes and not saying what people want him to say. I will be playing this song reguarly. |

I don't think he wrote this song with the hit parade in mind or to come up with something musically groundbreaking and super-original, he recorded it to express himself on Baltimore. He did so with some quintessential elements we've heard before but they're well suited for what the song is supposed to be.

no it was a hit despite its makeup. I still remember getting the 12" and LOLing at the cover...not sure who it was but it was cool... and putting it on the record player with head phones and i got vertigo... i felt as if i was falling.
Prince was is? a natural at what works...but according to Wendy and Lisa he dosn't know why! He doesn't know music theory...
I sumise that he keep trying too hard to make a hit as opposed to letting it come natral. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!" |
