i feel that it is beautiful that Prince cares enough to give up a song about a place in the US.

To those judging Freddie as a criminal, be careful because "there but by the Grace of God goes I." i feel that most who do 'criminal' acts really don't want to be there, but they act out of despair and lack of Love.

Lack of Love is the root of most problems. Without love, one really can't get to Peace. Love is a precursor to Peace and Respect is a precursor to Love. Dig it?

I live very close to Baltimore and when my windows were open at night when I was trying to sleep, it was like the clouds of the issues were blowing by in the wind.

Hopefully, this song and the rally helped heal many broken hearts.

We have so much to be thankful 4 in Baltimore...

The live version was pretty good, except for the part where Eryn is singing "I love you, I love you, I love you", that sounds pretty bad.

Yes. That part was terrible.

well the more i listen to it, the more i like it. And live it sounds pretty good too. So i have to say , well done prince! Maybe because its nice to hear him play something new live.

Same here and I like it even more now after hearing the live version smile

I agree with the both of you!! At first I was a bit underwhelmed as many of his "one-off singles" lack a real hook...maybe too much space in the vocals, but after listening to this track several times now I think all of the components work well. The delivery of his vocals and the tone of the song have almost a cautious sense of finding some sort of joy out of terrible despair. I don't care for the "let's take all the guns away" line but the overall seniment of the song is from a sincere place. I'm quite frankly surprised by how dismissive the majority are re: this song.

it was a positive gesture in a time of need. silence may be interpreted as acceptance, so it's good that Prince and the band were active and used their influence towards peace.

the song is also cool. very nice harmonies. i appreciate & agree that additional voices in Prince's sound make it fuller...though, we always appreciate his self backups

what was freaky is the allusion to "los angeles" in the end. what is Prince suggesting, another riot there, or symbolically, else where?

cool

I'm dismissive of it because he mentions michael brown in it... criminal.

Wrong poster boy for the cause... but I am very satisfied with how things turned out, big picture you know.

So you're OK with simple shoplifters being shot to death and "satisfied" with cops being judge, jury and executioner. Good to know. And nice to have you on record.

A LA friend was in LA - a very 'poor' part - where her daughter lives when the LA riots were going on. It was small and not too publicized. It feels like the media wanted this kept quiet. This was about three weeks ago...

It's really cool: the other day I was just thinking that I didn't have enough live versions of Let's Go Crazy, Take Me With U, Raspberry Beret, U Got The Look, Controversy, 1999, Little Red Corvette and Nothing Compares 2 U. I feel really relieved now.

As far as sound, 'Baltimore' reminds me of both 'Cinnamon Girl' and 'One U Wanna C'.

Baltimore is simply a great song from P. It's stuck in my head on repeat and is structured very well besides what all the haters say

Ps yeaterday as I was listening to Baltimore I had my player on shuffle and at the end of Baltimore the song automatically blended right into International Lover and it works quite nicely cool

It's a definite grower for me. My first reaction was meh, but it actually works really good. And all the harmonization work Eryn put on it is great. It went from a C- to a B+ song for me. I like this vibe of song (a la RNRLA) from Prince. A keeper.

Change it one more time..

I could make myself like this song more, but even Prince has to know this is just filler for him. If you see him live you know he STILL has so much more power than this. It is senseless he doesn't use it. It is unfortunate that songs like Diamonds and Pearls and Cream led him to believe he could make soft uncreative music that are devoid of emotion and power because it seems that is all he makes anymore. It is structured well, it's singable in a church choir kinda way, but damn it..... FEEL SOMETHING!!! Push you damn voice! Quit making the main melody sound so..... typical! He keeps using the same instruments in the same way which is something that even he himself talked about being a source of creativity...using all the differnet sounds and instruments, but that's not the real issue. (I'm sorry I go on and on like this, I just want so badly for him to dominate the way he still can)

Here is an example..... when Aerosmith started really hitting their stride again after years of nothing...why were they doing so well when other bands (Def Leppard for example) were making good music (Like Prince still does) but not getting the success? It's the FEELING and the POWER. Steven Tyler would puch his voice with angst and power for at least the final chorus so you had a reason to want to get there. Def Leppard, if you have heard them live recently, Joe Elliot can hit every note he did in his twenties but he never pushes it on the new material. Prince is doing the same thing. He is not FEELING his music anymore, he's just making it. Of course he can't do The Beautiful Ones like he did, who the hell could? I just wish to God that he can find that FEELING again while he's still able to do it.
