Song PRINCE should have kept.

if u could pick ONE Prince song done by another artist that u wish Prince would have kept 4 himself... which would it be?

NOTHING COMPARES 2 U. Imagine it as a single in the mid-80's...

concordance

I think it was cool that so many (varied) songs were shared with so many other artists. Just made ya appreciate it all even more when ya found out the real deal.

I suppose it would have been a hit in the mid 80s because Prince was on a roll and people would have bought it because it was Prince. However I think Sineads version is more powerful than the Family version. If she hadn't of covered it, to this day the majority of the world would not have heard this song and Prince wouldn't have resurrected it.

So basically I don't think the Family version would've been a hit.

High Fashion. Sugar Walls as a close second, though obviously it would have been hard to pull off from an anatomical stanpoint lol

I agree - There is virtually no chorus on the original version. Its just wailing!

Sinead and Nellee Hooper gave the song more structure and their arrangement is better than Prince's original.

Agree...Prince has so far not been able to take this song back.

I agree... hindsight is 20-20 as they say. Still, it would be nice for there to be a good studio recording of Prince doing this song. I loved it from The Family before Sinead ever thought of recording it. (although - DESIRE has always been my favorite song from that album.)

Does anyone know why Sinead recorded it? Since Prince wrote that entire album but only took the songwriting credit for that one, and because Sinead never seemed like the kind to have bought The Family's album, I always wondered if Prince arranged with Warner Bros. for somebody else to cover the song. It seems odd that Sinead would just cover it out of the blue, doesn't it?

Prince's former manager was managing Skinhead at the time, and suggested the song.

Wasn't there a story once that Sinead visited Prince once, they argued and Prince threw her out?

Or was that just tabloid stuff?
