Sending SOTT to the stratosphere? Replace IGBABN? A qoute from our dear friends over at the P&B podcast. I believe it was Toejam who brought up this interresting question. With all the material Prince recorded, could other songs or song brought SOTT to an even higher level? My version clocks in at 9.02. So the simple question is, how would you replace the song and which songs would you use? Three 3 min songs? two 4.50 min songs? Or a new magnus opus of a song in the same length (insert Crystal Ball here, I already know you will)?

I'd be happy with Train and Witness For The Prosecution She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

Bearing in mind average vinyl LP's allowed 22.5 mins, and he only used 20, I would have replaced IGBABN with Joy In Repetition and Shockadelica, clocking the side in at 22 mins. .

I'd make it even longer thanks to throwing away Slow Love.

Thank you, I'm not alone after all. Back to topic...

replace It with Rebirth of the Flesh and replace its gonna be with Crucial

Can u imagine if Rebirth of The Flesh was the opener to SOTT... Wow would've been out of this world.

I would axe Slow Love and replace with If I Love You Tonight. I would then add Witness 4 the Prosecution or Big Tall Wall, it's a toss up ... I can't decide. If a man is considered guilty

I had a really tough time figuring out what IGBABN was--I'm not sure I've ever seen it abbreviated before.
Heck, I don't know what you'd do. I was never thrilled by the song, but as with my reaction to Crystal Ball's leak--I really can't imagine the album anyway other than how it was released. I love a lot of the outtakes (and otherwise released songs) from the period, but I can't really say that the album would be improved by any specific substitutions. It works pretty well as is, as wass, and as evermore shall be.

the song "Crystal Ball" would have been an amazing replacement for "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night".

No thanks to a replacement.... Prince 4Ever.

I would replace it with the non-live, studio version which I can imagine has a Black Album vibe to it. I dont know if such a version exists, but if it does I bet its slammin'.

I personally love the song. The guitarr lick all the way throughout the song is funky as hell. But as they stated, it's really just a jam. And with all the material he had available, which studio songs would have been better. Remember, only replacing the track beautiful night, not other songs whatever you think of them.

I think a long jam totally works at that point in the album, gives it space to breath. Anything else would be too cluttered imho. Especially with the very complex Adore coming straight after. I'd rather work from the ground up re-arranging the entire thing than lose the single track for 1 or 2 other tracks.

WHAT? Beautiful night is a highlight! If anything I'd get rid of Slow Love, It or U Got the Look.

Why all the hate for Slow Love? I loved it the first time I heard it; and now, 28 years later, I still can't help but to sing along when it pops up on my all-Prince-music-iPod shuffle.

That is like asking "what part of Cindy Crawford should be altered to bring her to an even higher level"

Since he wanted to add that as a sentimental send off, he should have given us the Parade tour show it was performed at DVD and CD

Adding a third or fourth disc would definitely send it into the stratosphere "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

That would be too many songs, imo. Maybe do, just not like did before

I love Beautiful Night, and I wouldn't replace it for anything. It's a party, and it's exactly what the album needs at that point, after all the complexity and introspection that came before it. Also, it sets you up perfectly for Adore.

I can't figure this out, either."Slow Love" is a superb song! It has a Sly Stone feel to it.A very good slow jam!

I'd leave IGBABN (which is an awesome song) and get rid of "If I Was Your Girlfriend", one of my least favorite P tracks. I'd replace it with "In A Large Room With No Light".
