Dinner with Delores - about Madonna? I heard a rumor that the song Dinner With Delores was about Madonna. It kinda makes sense - Prince sings about Delores eating like a Brontosaurus (Madonna was a big eater) and showed dirty movies (Madonna was into spanky films and books and showed such stuff to her "friends").
What do you think? | |

I remember in 1985,there was a rumor that "Raspberry Beret" was about Madonna (who Prince was seeing at the time)

I would think it was acombination of individuals who thought of Prince's music as only as good as Purple Rain album and didn't move on musically with Prince. And throw in some infamous CJ esque atitudes from various critiques and you get dinner with delores. (Of course just guessing.) I think Prince was answering all his critics and their thought process. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Madonna was a big eater and showed fetish movies to her so-called friends? Have you been watching MTV News re-runs from 1992?

I thought Dinner With Delores was a metaphor, with "Delores" having an insatiable appetite for sex, not actual food. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

Why not? He wasted his time making fun of madonna in the love4oneanother special, or maybe, TBE special, where her video came up on their studio TV and he made that priceless face.

I liked the Saturday night live skit when Madonna was about to make love to Mike Myers during a parody of her song "justify my love " and Mike Myers see's Prince dancing in front of him ,he's like "hey isn't that prince?!" [Edited 4/9/15 23:23pm] There's Joy in repetition

I always assumed Primce went back in time and the song was literally about a whorish brontosaurus he met. But I guess there was no carpet back then, so that doesn't make much sense. It's probably about Madonna. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

lol
Initial tracking took place in early April, 1996, Prince actually respects Madonna and has spoken well of her in interviews there is no way he wrote this about her. I don't know why people think Prince doesn't like her

Unless Prince said what it was about, I cant give a damn about what anyone else speculates or claims it is about. Call me old fashioned - I believe in the horse's mouth in this sorry ass, fake ass, lying, social media-driven perversion of reality that has contaminated everyone on the planet.

They are the big, greedy, out-of-touch dinosaur expecting him to turn the same tricks for money. He wants to move on from 1984, but they won't let him. He ends the stale relationship. Brilliant, poignant and beautiful song about artistic control. The era performances of this song must've felt so bittersweet for him...with "Slave" written on his "turned" cheek.
