Prince lyrics that you just don't understand?

I was thinking about the line in Lady Cab Driver, around the bit where he starts chanting the 'this is for's. The part where he mentions Yosemite Sam? Was that a reference to Warner Brothers? I know he mentions DisneyLand as well, but it always kind of struck me as being more about Warner Brothers seen as The Looney Tunes was obviously a WB production.

Also in this thread just general Prince lyrics that kind of confuse you/weird you out.

I never got the peeing thing in We can funk either lol

As far as the peeing thing in We Can Funk he is referring to testing positive for the Funk. As in a drug test using pee to see if someone is on drugs. Only in his case if you tested his pee he would test postive for being funky! lol I thought it has always been a very clever line.

I do quite a bit of surgery in people's mouths and I think the analogy is very clear. You have to be deliberate and precise and take your time and use a lot of finesse. That's what make love like surgery means!

^The middle one is not so strange. "Live my life in taxi cabs" simply means "being on the run."

The first one is simply in reference to girl with a big ol' butt dancing and making it shake. The second is probably referencing being high on drugs and the weird things he saw/could see. Third... Sex. Plain and simple. And Starfish & Coffee is about a mentally handicapped/maybe autistic girl Suzanne went to school with.

i mean, the lyrics to anna stesia and Love 2 the 9s, and Insatiable make sense on the surface...

the anna stesia lyrics and that line from Insatiable dont make sense from a gender perspective...but, i guess thats Prince, breaking the "rules" again ...

no one has yet to successfully explain Darling Nikki either...

ive seen it explained as him explaining a ritual initiation scene, or selling his soul to the devil, or maybe some homoerotic and sadistic fantasy of his, or just pure fiction...

or maybe, like the Great Billy Sparks said, sometimes he makes songs that make sense to no one but himself

Anna Stesia is a play on words for 'Anasthesia'. Sometimes when he sings the 'anna stesia' part it can sound indistinguishable from 'anasthesia'. When I first heard the song I actually thought it was called 'anasthesia' but when I checked the tracklisting I obv found out that wasn't the case.

The whole track is about the 1st of December 1987, the night he took E.

ive also read that Anna Stesia was Prince apologizing to God for the homosexual stuff he did...not to say who is right or wrong, but the lyrics could easily be interpreted as such...i dont see how he can be singing about an E trip...sounds like he is trying to love the "right way" and the "only way" as God intended...and not just loving anyone "boy OR girl"...gregory was a ghost man, looking like a beautiful girl, wetting his lips...then Prince said, "i took a chance" etc etc...sounds like something other than gettin high....

everybody is really just guessing...unless P himself explains it

I think the 'box' is a va-jay-jay and the mirror is so she can watch herself being orally administered to, or so to speak.

I always thought the meaning of the 'taxicab' line in Annie Christian was that he would stay on the move, one step ahead of Annie, until she's crucified.

"I like to watch."

Yeah, I was gonna say the next line in the song tells what the two S's stand for.

I dont think its about homosexuality. Anesthesia itself is drug related. It numbs you. The song seems to be about being numb to the world, so much so that you'll do anything to feel something again (drugs, more than likely E). But with Lovesexy, you don't need drugs. You have God.

How so? When I think of "hips in the air" I think of missionary, with a guy pumping up and down (think of the Darling Nikki scene in Purple Rain with Prince pumping the floor). I don't see how that line would come from a female. If it was LEGS up in the air, maybe. But hips? Nah.

Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see
I can be in a park, or flying in the…in the deep sea
I wish u’d hold my hand; then everything could b
There’s nothing strange, we’re not deranged
We only want everyday 2 b a Cosmic Day
