i hear you...it makes it more badass and more "rock & roll", to chalk up that night's antics as drug induced...and from things ive seen from others, and from other "stories" about P, he shows quite a few signs of being loaded up on something (coke? liquored up?)

I'm a Gemini and I get asked 'am I on something' when I'm in a zone

that Twin thing can be something else

I really think those 'behaviours' are a part of his dual personality and him being an entertainer

Prince is quirky but on that show he was trying to impress one of his idols while 'dealing' with MJ

and remember at this time Prince had only been on the stage 4 yrs + some months his from the first few shows for his For You album to 1999 tour went by real fast, but it was a short period of time, vs MJ who was doing that since a kid

Eye always felt that whole incident was choreographed by Mj & JB to make prince look bad!

Mj was always scared of prince's success. That whole part was just too perfect, when Mj stepped on stage and knew what part & step to hit @ the exact same moment. Mj was always prepared & choreographed his EVERY MOVE. He also was VERY sneaky & used that moment too embarrass prince....

I'd vote he was just scared to death.

Yeah he was definitely extremely nervous and probably shitting himself. To be honest that's exactly how I image P acts when nervous- tries too hard and forgets what he does best.

Also KCOOL piss off with that nonsense about it being a set-up and MJ was being 'very sneaky'. I'm certainly not the biggest MJ fan in the world but that clip shows just how experienced in 'showbiz' he was compared to Prince at the time, who even since gaining worldwide fame still lives and works in his own universe

I hadn't watched it in a decade and this thread made me wanna check it again... Way I see it this guitar sounded awful, at least in P's hands, it's like at first P is like "OK I'm gonna jam" and then after a minute realizes there is NOTHING he can take out of this instrument and out of frustration he just gives it up and, because he can't just leave THAT early, starts to make his dance stuff, then leaves ASAP. In the end I think he managed a very incomfortable and stressful situation quite well, and the prop lamp is quite hilarious indeed, but in a good way biggrin
