Big Chick is my favorite Bodguard of prince....He would have given his life 4 him....

right...until he sold Prince out for drug money

I remember reading in Q magazine Prince was sad when he passed away. He did a benefit gig for him. Obviously Prince held no grudge. Maybe you could see past that too.

.

Besides, I can't imagine he made much in his Prince years anyway, Prince didn't pay very well. That's not exactly a secret.

These images sum up the misunderstanding, or the misinterpretation of the Prince persona by the public quite well.

It's easy to judge him as full of himself seeing him walking this way.

What is tasty is Alan Leeds' side of the story,
which describes a panicked Prince in his limo, helpless as a baby,
suddenly realizing how many people showed up at the Chinese Theater.

Just seconds before these images were shot.

Knowing that, this cocky red carpet walk exsudes maximum stage fright.
Stars usually smile and pose for photographs.
Look at him, almost running inside.
Baby you're much too fast.

Anyway, if Big Chick gave us "Hello" and "Old Friends 4 Sale",

he deserves Big Kisses on both cheeks.

Yes, I remember that behind the scenes story

I always felt that Prince was overwelmed by the grandioso swell of fame at that time

^ Yeah, he got every tuxedo in the audience wave their hands.

The stage decorators, trying to replicate the Purple Rain sleeve flowers,

built a grandma's hat box for Bobby Z to stand on.
The most corny flowery wallpaper.

And of course, the mike kicking :

I've been surfing this site and making rare posts for years and I have to comment I've never been more thrilled by a post in far memory. I adored the site of Prince with Big chick in those years. Prince looked his best and most badass and something about a 7 foot white bearded giant protecting a wondrous little man really unearths a lot of joy in me. Thanx for making my day.

Think that was his image back them . He never said much which made people want to know more . I think all he said at the Brits was " Thanks to God" and walked off . Plus he uused to say he was not comfortable around strangers in the interview he did with Steve Fargnoli in 85

Sorry to quote my own, and Prince : "Rock'n'Roll Is Alive (and He shagged'em Hollywood style)".

I think I almost miss the Reagan years, just to witness again Prince coming to mainstream America with his masturbatory magazine (not to mention Danger, no-playback-policy, Wit, and, pun not intented, Revolution).

What a cultural shock. When in fact it was revival, quoting Zappa, The Stooges, The Beatles, The Blues Brothers, Kraftwerk all over the album.
Prince, was, in 1984, the best ambassador of the 50's/60's spirit and musical demanding.
While making a body of art not to be compromised. And so original.
While living his credo : D.M.S.R..
...My Hero!

As for the penguins audience, as Bob, Big Chick and P would say: "I'll kick yo ass — twice!" smile

Is it bad that Big Chick is the only name that comes to my mind if you say "bodyguard of prince" to me? Should I know others?

He actually protected PRINCE>
the symbol did not exist until the mid nineties when a company in downtown Minneapolis designed it for him so he could trademark it.

Possessed:the Rise & Fall of Prince

November 1981 - March 1982: Controversy tour of the United States

pg 47 One morning before a show in Tampa, Florida, Dickerson was getting a cup of coffee in the hotel restaurant when he experienced a moment of terror: A huge man who looked like the quintessential redneck biker - long hair, muscles, tattoos - was striding toward him. "I thought I was about to die," the guitarist remembered. Fortunately, the hulking figure passed right by, and may have even grunted a hello.

About an hour later, Dickerson received a phone call summoning him to Prince's room for a band meeting. When he walked in, he was shocked to see the same man he had encountered in the restaurant. Dickerson was introduced to Chick Huntsberry, Prince's new bodyguard.

On the bus the next day, Huntsberry's presence proved intimidating to everyone, and he spent most of the ride to Jacksonville surrounded by empty seats. Finally, Dickerson decided to approach him and found the bodyguard to be a warm, friendly person who had lived a fascinating, if rough, life that had included working security at biker bars.

At six feet inches and over 300 pounds, the bearded, tattooed Huntsberry really did look like a refugee from a motorcycle gang, and th contrast between him and Prince was stark to the point of absurdity. At first, Prince thought so too; although he agreed with his managers that more security was needed, he couldn't imagine having Huntsberry shadow him. A couple of days later, Prince mentioned to Dickerson that he was going to send the bodyguard home.

"Why?" Dickerson asked.

"He's just too big, he scares me," Prince responded.

Dickerson related the conversatin he had had with Huntsberry on the bus and urged Prince to keep him. "I think he's a good guy - you should give him a chance."

Prince thought about it and decided to follow Dickerson's advice. And as the bodyguard began accompanying him almost everywhere. Prince came to feel comforted by having a human barricade against the world. Huntsberry was dedicated enough to do just about anything for his new charge, and Prince began relying on him not only for protection but for a wide variety of personal errands. They soon became almost inseparable.

i watch that video at least once a week for laughs...

the moment right after that screenshot, when Prince throws his glove into the crowd and someone immediately throws it right back at him, is so disrespectful but hilarious...and then Prince falling off the stage and taking James Browns stage prop/lamp-post down with him, may be the funniest moments in showbiz history...

people say P never did drugs, but he was on SOMETHING that night...clearly

It's call nervous and out of his element

Come on there is James Brown (his show band and audience) then Michael Jackson come out and tears it up...

Prince was nervous.

Bobby Z said plainly 'Prince made an ass of himself that night'

If anything he could have had some to drink, but I don't think he needed to be hi or anything

Just think about his reaction in the limo as he pulled up to the PR Premiere

i hear you...it makes it more badass and more "rock & roll", to chalk up that night's antics as drug induced...and from things ive seen from others, and from other "stories" about P, he shows quite a few signs of being loaded up on something (coke? liquored up?)
