Really loving this song! Waking up to it in my head
Plus the guitar solo starting at 3:40 along with P's vocals is worth the price of admission alone! Classic!
...and yes Clouds is awesome too! [Edited 3/16/15 11:24am] The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Seems Prince is better off doing covers.
Prince could cover the best songs ever written and the org would still bitch and whine about it incessantly.
We already did. Man, his Come Together is terrible. |

Anybody notice the wav file is track 08? #08 of what?!?
No track # on The X's Face wav.
Yeah I noticed that as well. It was either considered for inclusion on PLEC (which I doubted because the sound is quite different here than on those tracks) or maybe something else unreleased that he's been toying with.
I think other things like that have happened with other tracks in the past--I can't remember which ones right now. I don't think any of them ever wound up being explained. |

Except One Of Us was a good song to start with and a great cover.
This is more Purple & Gold 2015. Lyrically it's what I would have expected for a christian song called What If. It's not deep, meaningful or thought provoking. Normally I don't pay much attention to the lyrics in Prince tracks but these are terrible.
Easily the worst 3rdEye track on which Prince sings. RIP |

Most of PE plus this song are all garbage if you ask me. (I know, you didn't). I listened to AOA again today. I like the production but not one single song stands out. And too many mellow songs sung in falsetto. It's really hard to believe that he used to put out such incredible music. AOA sounds like wallpaper/background music and PE is just plain embarrassing.
jjazznola question? Do you still wear a mullet? Do you still rock stone washed jeans or Hammer pants? Dangling earrings maybe? You really sound like you pine for the days when Prince wore all purple, peach&black or garters, hose and a rude boy badge. I love those things to......but its 2015....Prince has matured, grown and is making fabulous music that you are too locked into the past to enjoy. If your only purpose is to throw shade and negativity on those of us who "get" the new Prince....or mature....why don't you just get out of the ORG and leave the bandwith for some real fans. You are not needed.
Prince has matured, grown and is making fabulous music? PE is fabulous, mature music? The "new" Prince? Drinking the purple koolaid I see. As you can tell, my opinions are shared by others on this site. And yes, I am locked into a time when Prince was way ahead of everyone else in creativity and quality. When he would never have let someone like Hannah and her terrible voice sing on one of his albums. Call me crazy! |

I think in many respects it is the worst song Prince has ever sung because it is so disappointing and intellectually redundant. Purple & Gold is comparable but nowhere near as bad or damning because it 's an anthem for a sports team and something of an anomaly. Equally, songs like Jughead and Everybody Loves Me are essentially party songs and can be written off as 'fun'. This is a spiritual statement and marks Prince embracing Christian rock. It's so dull, dumb and conservative it can't even be considered middle of the road... |

Judging by Hannah's incessant preaching on her twitter account and her presence on this track, I can't help but wonder if she has influenced this?
Jehovah's Witnesses simply do not embrace mainstream or born-again Christianity nor sing any songs relating to it as it derives from the 'world empire of false religion'. You won't find any JW artists on Christian radio. Hannah is clearly a very zealous born-again and her husband Joshua is a Church Minister. I can't help but wonder if Prince has merely converted from one religion to another or is at least in the process... [Edited 3/17/15 10:02am] |

it would appear as such, although I've been wondering/hoping that he just did it as a favor to her for some strange reason... Also, not just Prince, not knowing their belief system, I'm sort of surprised that both Donna & Ida would endorse such a song to cover as well, or I guess they just know who's signing their checks maybe? I'm still a bit baffled by the song |

My least favorite prince cover ever for 2 reasons.
Hannah wrecks it with her shrilly unstable voice.
There is just too much happening musically in this song, in my opinion, it would have been better stripped down a bit.

I can't be bothered to go and listen to it again but if what someone said in this thread about replacing the lyrics of 'the cross' with 'the truth', that would seem to imply that he's still JW. When they talk about their beliefs they call it the truth. Could be on his way though. RIP |

I've given up on on this 3rdeyething (though i would like to catch a hit n run show), but I'm curious as to whether or not the melodic range of Hannah's vocals had finally caught up to that of her drum set. |

I like the guitar work at the beginning and people shouldnt be looking into the lyrics so much
Lets face it some of Prince's lyrics over the years have been bordering on the ridicilous
Take it as it is, a pretty tidy song but not a classic
As for the AutoTune, he has been doing it forever before other artists were and it works sometimes and doesnt others. I like his Camille stuff and would like another project like that
As for 3rd Eye Girl I thought their album PE was better than AOA

The word "range" isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I listen to Hannah on What If. Unless you're talking about a shooting range. Or a range of anti-depressants. [Edited 3/22/15 6:33am] "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide." |

Ok, I'll call you crazy, Crazy. So what would you guess the ratio of fans in this "org" to Prince fans world wide? What would you guess is the number of posters in the "org" and of this number how many are robotically negative and appalled with anything related to Prince? I don't have the answers, but you see what I'm getting at....in your myopic, extremely narrow and negative little universe EVERYONE AGREES WITH YOU and of course thats utter bs. One more for you....how many true fans of Prince don't even bother posting in here because of nasty people like you relieving themselves on anyone or anything that shows enthusiasm for an artist you claim to love....to be a fan of? You seem stuck in Prince's past....I'll give you credit for having good taste in music (anyone who loves Funkadelic-Radiohead-Bob Marley can't be all bad) but about Prince and what he is trying to do lately.....you're unreasonabley negative. Most people who listen to Prince love these latest two albums, the "org's" most active posters seem to be the negative nancy's....but they don't represent the majority....don't get that twisted "jjazznola."
