Angelsoncrack

I really love it! Esp the performance of Starfish and Coffee smile

Although it kind of saddens me too seen as the performance of she gave her angels is really sad because at the time it was sort of promoting the album for kids that he was going to do but never came about because of...well you know.

Here's a gif I made when I got tix to see Prince!

Indeed I did. Loved it. I think he and Mayte were still in a good place given that the episode was recorded in September and their son was born and then passed away the following month. Prince still seemed so hopeful and positive. I felt like it was a rare glimpse into a part of his personality that we don't get to see too often.

Yeah It was really good. It was a weird time period for me though. I felt a certain connection with Prince. Our 1st child was born the same week as Gregory. My 1st name just happens to be Gregory too. Corney I know but it was really cool to me at the time. When I heard the news their son had passed I really felt for him. I knew he was riding the same high from bringing a child into this world and it had a bad outcome. I could only imagine how it crushed him. So I always felt a certain saddness watching this episode.

.

I still feel bad but now I look back and remember what a great time it was for me in my life. My 1st born was rocked to sleep with the 1st disc of Emancipation and loved the Muppets Tonight episode when she was old enough to watch the tv. I train em early. wink

.

One of these days if I can ever catch my child at home I'd love to put this on and see her reaction. lol

Of course she denies liking Prince. (typical teen) Funny thing is when I had to do some work on her 1st car I saw 2-3 prince cd's in her car. Her response was that I probably put them there. lol

I liked it. Sure he was 'selling out', but I like when he's accessible too. It was all light-hearted fun and showcased his talents as well as humor.. but does anyone else thnk he looks like 90s-era David Schwimmer? lol

I wasn't there.. can anyone on the org enlighten us as to how this was recieved? By the prince community as well as the general public (if it even entered the general conscience at the time)

^ The "Muppets Show" was huge in Europe (and the US?) in the late 70s + the 80s.

the Prince episode was from the much later "Muppets Tonight" series in the mid-1990s, sent on US TV originally afaik (Please correct if I am wrong here?).

I have no idea how well it was received, actually I don't think too many people cared outside the Prince fanbase.

There was a short article (mention) in Rolling Stone Magazine, though.... I think it was on the "Grapevine" page iirc. Mentioning the "Raspberry Sorbet" song, again this is how I remember it.

I don't think it went down well. Muppets Tonight was a huge flop unknown outside the USA, it had noneof the magic of the 1970s show.

.

Prince's performance was quite lighthearted and had a few gags "Oh come on y'all, I ain't into all that leather and lace no more", but then admits that Gonzo looks good in the halter top or something. A forgettable dogigator sketch with some song about being natural as can be.

.

The best part was him doing "She gave her angels at the end".

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Yes I did.

Long time ago. I remember thinking back then he was doing that show because his wife was pregnant.

Did it come out in '96 or '97?

It was funny. Nice to see another side of Prince.
