"319" appreciation

No one talks about "319". That song's a gem.

Definitely. Its another one of those songs that I always wondered where the idea from it came from. What kind of wild experiences inspired it. I love everything about that song.

Change it one more time..

It's The closest thing to classic 80's Prince song, the short libidinous funky track. I have lots of memories of listening to it on Fridays and Saturdaya before going out to bars.

If anyone ever rented Room 319 somewhere on purpose, I want to know. I'm sure Sausage did it.

Wasn't it featured in Showgirls, or was it Striptease? 'Round about the time all the Hollywood leading ladies were getting into pole dancing smile

It sounds like one last burst of 80's Prince before he moved on for good. I think everyone here digs it.

Strange. 2 comments already say it sounds like a Prince 80s track. I don't hear that at all. What album would it fit on? I'm not hating. I'm curious.

To me, it's a decent song but my least favorite on TGE. Yes, that's
right, I put We March and Now ahead of it. Now is the shiznit. Great album.

Best thing about 319 is the camera noises, imo. Cool effect. The music, well, the drums and guitar are bit too grating. Ok, maybe I'm hating a little bit. Let me stop. Lyrics are fairly good.

Love it. Wasn't one of my favourite tracks on the album when it came out, but these days if I put the album on I probably enjoy "319" the most. I often have to listen to it several times in a row.

The guitar riffing underneath (or is it sampled guitar?) is not something you hear in his 80s output, as you'd probably expect a synth sound to play the same figure, but the vocals have a "Dirty Mind" / "Kiss" vibe. I also find the chorus to be rather similar to "Electric Chair".

A real nineties highlight for me - I have it on my list of Prince tracks to drive to.

It's got energy, verve, and a dirty attitude. Just what 80's Prince brought to the table.

I like the way he pushes his voice and projects a humourous personality..."I like it!"

Not saying the whole arrangement is typical 80s Prince, it definitely "sounds" 90s, but the composition itself is the "sexy short and sweet pop funk".

Not quite as poor as We March but in the bottom 2 tracks from The Gold Experience for me. I can happily skip it.

It has long been rumored that this track is a revisted/reworked late 1988-mid 1989 era production. If that is true, then it fits somewhere indeterminately into that post-Lovesexy, pre-Graffiti Bridge, Batman/RU2TJF sound.

If you add a 1 to the 3 (4) and a 1 to the 19 (20), you get Carmen Electra's birthday. She was dancing on a pole the first time I saw her video just like in the "319" movie scene in Showgirls. Is this song hers?
What?

Still to this day, I say that 319 is a Batman session leftover. The tones from the guitar, horns and synths scream Batman and 1989. IIRC, there is an interview in which Cat has said 319 came from the Batman era. Love the song.

I can't stand it.

It sounds like "U Got The Look" crossed with "She's Got The Look" by Roxette.

This would already be a nightmare, except it's got no riff, or somewhat that vaguely resembles your neighbor's hedge trimmer on sunday.
Like pain to my ears.

And don't start me on the photo shutter noise stock sound.

Swap it with Peach, and you got yourself a brand new TGE.

.. I always skip that song (dont like the layered chorus). It has some funky spots here and there, but that doesnt make it a good song. if it was released in 1995 as a single, it dont think it would chart anywhere. And call it the Kiss of the 90s...meh, i dont think so.

i am just thinking which other track could be a hit from gold experience. We had "beautiful girl", "i hate u" and "Gold". 2 of them charted very well.

-319 ... i would say never

- Pussy control .. today, i think the used synth-sounds/ drums sound just silly (back then i also had my problems with it.. when i first heard the bootlegs from the ultimate tour, i was very excited...but when the final product came, it was a letdown - same happens with shhh, now...

- shhh- a cool song, but the version on TGE isnt the best. His vocals sounds so boring when u compare them to the beautiful experience movie.

dolphin - could be a minor hit. cool melody, great vocals, some guitars..

Billy jack bitch - with a cool edit, this one could be a R&B hit.

Just an okay song. But I did have a credit card with the CVC number of 319 for a while--so I could actually remember that one. I usually can't.

I always thought it sounded like this. It has the same guitar tone, and there is a part in the verse where Ohgr's vocals go into a falsetto that sounds very Princey.
