I always thought Prince was cool because he was never cool. After 1984, people thought Prince was just a nutter. Its all true, and I'm cool with that.

She used a few choice words to describe him but cool was not one of them.

The ability to be who he is - and have the means, the will, the talent, the insight and opportunities to express it for his entire adult life is cool as it gets.

The use of the words "geek" and "nerd" seem to imply that his intelligence makes it impossible for him to be cool. That says a lot, considering who are the most emulated and adored in mainstream society. i.e. people who do not read or create. Some have style and some have substance. Prince definitely has both.

No, that's called being a scientist. Something Prince decidedly is not.

I do agree with what this post is really saying. Prince acts cool. It's part of the act (at least the "cool" in the pop star sense). His entire posture and voice changes if you pay attention on bootleg stuff where you can sometimes catch a glimpse of the candid real Prince. His Minneapolic accent comes out too.

But if it weren't for his geek out fandom of scifi films, silly jokes, experimetation into sounds and looks that are not "cool", I would not be into him so much.

I think he's very cool.

Everything I've read from accounts by his close friends indicate that he's a fun-loving guy (and there are funny stories about him too). However, I think he's socially awkward around strangers sometimes and overall more of an introvert. But his 'cool' factor is more than a role.. I think it's real. The UTCM Prince is probably closer to the real Prince than the PR Prince is.

At this point, I've literally started becoming protective of/liking the little asshole as if he's a close friend in real life.

Prince's weirdness/eccentricness/dorkiness/kitchiness/offness is the only thing that's kept me a fan for the past 25 years. Through all the ups and downs in music, there was always a completely out-there, sometimes borderline crazy (in both positive and negative ways) individual who's completely fascinating to me. Most "cool" people aren't really that interesting to me because I know its all show.
