Good to see...the song deserves some more spins
I think both Warner and Prince are on a good way...

I've heard the song twice on XM now. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

It's a beautiful song and definitely a grower. I wish he had done some proper promotion, a video (with images of Apollonia from her visit to Paisley last year...) and played it live in tv shows. It's such a shame he doesn't give his new music a chance to be listened to. |

It's a solid song, but yet again not the best single choice. It's all about the hook, and The Breakdown clearly is the most radio-friendly song. As an older artist, Prince has fewer options for radio play and a smaller margin of error for his choices. I could give examples of bad single choices for every album released to the U.S. public since 2004. He's had radio-friendly songs on each album, but with the exception of Call My Name, he hasn't made the right call. This has been a regular thing with him since "the comeback"/Musicology era. I just don't get it. |

2 weeks ago, you were bragging about D'angelo and Prince being on the same chart and seeing who would chart the highest. I'm not a big D'angelo fan but to say "young fans don't buy real music by real musicians" is a copout now that Prince's song "This Could Be Us" is lagging in airplay. It doesn't matter even if Prince had a number 1 song with a bullet on any chart: payola, popularity and artist career trajectory heavily determine commericial success.
One other thing : the initial sales of the album. AOA's sales were so low that radios who usually plays new singles of Prince were not interested to play it this time, because they know the audience doesn't care about. D ANGELO's album initial sales were twice that of Prince, it's easier to play him on radio. If prince had the numbers of D ANGELO it would have been another story
But who is making MILLIONS, being invited to play private parties. More than D made or even made from sales of both albums....Case closed & really doesn't matter... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! You know you both have interesting points. D'Angelo is a talented cat who is heavily influenced by Prince, heavily.....so it is a mystery why everyone from satellite to terrestial radio, freakin' Starbucks "hear music" to even tv commercial producers have ignored AoA and PLECTRUMELCTRUM. Interesting that U2 (who I like) drops anything at all and every form of media is all over everything about the release. While really good...while legendary in their own right...even if they made timeless music in the 1990s up until the early 2000s.....U2 isn't Prince. Yet the guy can't get a spin even on a respected, progressive, and influential non-commercial radio station like KCRW in L.A. Its gone beyond lack of promotion if you ask me. Great music should not be ignored. |

moved up to #19 today with a +45 spins (to 290) and a +40 bullet. Only 2 songs on the chart currently have more that the 117 bullets TCBU has today. [Edited 2/22/15 8:04am] |

As far a radio play, the million dollar question has always been who the target audience is. There is no way in hell KCRW would play the corny ass cheese on AOA. If they did, me as well as everyone else would bail on it. You can't force feed this crap on people and expect them to like it, much less spend money to get it. People just can't accept that it's appeal is limited. It has that crayon scribble pinned on the refrigerator appeal only parents or the obsessed could appreciate. |

Clicked on "Venus" on XM yesterday, one of their major pop stations and it was on. Just about drove my car off the road. Not one of my fav songs off the album, but for me, it is literally the first time I have head a new Prince song on a mainstream pop station (I live in KC) since "Gold" in early 1996. Pretty cool. |

Thank goodness AOA's appeal is limited. Quality music and mass appeal very rarely intersect.
Your other point is simply ridiculous. Force feeding crap music to people is PRECISELY what makes it popular. 99.99% of the pop music audience cannot distinguish good music from bad. Where have you been for the last thirty years?? |

Caught me off guard. Not used to hearing a new Prince song on the radio. Even though I play the shit out of AOA, hearing it on the radio was like hearing from an old friend you haven't heard from in years. "Hey, I got the butta 4 ya muffin, honey.. I'm just 2 old 2 hold the knife!" |

Don't get me wrong, I totally love what prince has given us over the years but the discussion is more wether AOA has been neglected on purpose while being a really good album and I don't think that's the case. If D Angelo builds on the former work from Prince? Fine, luckily someone does. Prince built on James Brown, sly stone etc. His quality work didn't come falling from the sky but was inspired by those before him.
So having said that. If I just compare Prince latest album and that of D Angelo (never mind historic merrits of prince) I prefer Black Messiah. And that's what's happening on the charts as well. People still love prince but there is other music out there that is good and better than AOA. [Edited 2/24/15 21:25pm] The HQ-er formerly known as krokostimpy. |

Agreed. But D'angelo's album and tour is more like Mutiny On The Mothership with a third of ex-Prince associates in D's employ LOL. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR |
