Creeping up one more spot to 27 on 01/30. I think Urban AC has been waiting for a song to push, they have always supported Prince even during the rough patches. U Know got a little love but no shove from anybody. The Powers that Be are pushing a bit harder with This Could Be Us. All good things they say never last...

Never made the weeky UAC charts.
PS : The number of spins for both tracks is sensibly the same, despite higher chartrun for TCBU
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
TCBU, stuck at #29. I think the single lost his momentum. If Prince really shows up at the grammy this week, it could peak higher. But honestly, it seems that Prince can't have more than 100 spins a day. It was already the case with U KNOW, which charted lower, but had the same number of spins. Even D ANGELO, whose album is far more successfull than AOA, got more than 2000 spins a day, and his audience is thirty times more. Even Aretha Franklin and Eddy Murphy are on this chart It's not a great achievment at all to be on this chart. That won't make AOA back on charts, and that won't make people love Prince. THIS COUL BE US was the worst possible choice of single. WB pushed behind, but the audience clearly not.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Its not WB that would keep it on the charts, if WB or P's camp don't have independent promoters sponsoring its play on stations (spin maintenance) then the stations will naturally play whats being sponsored. I don't get the impression Prince is interested in shelling out money for anything, he seems pretty frugal in the post 90's years.. Change it one more time..

Lost another rank yesterday, down to #30. Will probably be out of top 40 by the night of the grammys
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Prince would love to have some hit singles. The simple fact is he gunned for the charts but failed time and time again. The only way he could get a hit is let himself be produced by or collobarate with the hot artists of today. Despite being dead Michael Jackson still managed to score a Top 10 single last year...with J Timberlake mind you [Edited 2/4/15 20:32pm]

You either didn't read or didn't understand what I wrote. Who anyone gets produced by is completely irrelevant to radio-play. It doesn't work like that. Change it one more time..

I bet that if Prince released a new single produced by Pharrell and featuring a "hot" guest rapper,it would get some attention on US radio.Imagine if "Happy" was that song....you really don't think it would have been a hit for Prince?

Prince almost had a hit last year (FALLINLOVE2NITE). It was picked up by the top 50 real airplay (not that UAC subchart that nobody cares), and if it was released on the good timing, after the Superbowl episode of NEW GIRL, tied with a music video, with some promotion by Prince, this crap would have been a hit. So yes, Prince wants a hit badly, but he's clearly not disposed to promote anything, especially if it could be a success. Don't forget, Prince is Gemini. By the way, TCBU lost another rank, it's #31 (-1), but gained 2 more spins than the day before.

You want to rewrite history ? FIL2N, which was and still is a piece of crap, ranked on the top 50 airplay of the whole United States of America during the end of march 2014. Without a music video. Without a live promotion on tv. Without any promotion from Prince, besides a front cover. Only with Epic's payola. EPIC stopped paying the day prince signed a contract with WB, and it was announced the first of april. So yes, one week later, FIL2N would have been on the top 40 airplay if Prince hadn't sign the WB contract. It was even marketed on a chains of supermarket in France, and ranked #113 on the official charts singles in the UK...It's obvious EPIC didn't want to bother with 3EG, so Prince moved on. If Prince played the game, this would have been a lasting hit on the real charts, with real sales. that's the way things go.

No chance, unless we go back in time in the early seventies. U KNOW, AOA, WBH and GOLD STANDART are way more appealing and commercial.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah something like that could likely get good attention in the beginning but it won't receive any sustained play to become what we call a "hit" unless there are indies behind it promoting it's play. And sponsored promotion doesn't just happen at the level of radio, it also effects video networks like BET and whoever else is out there that still plays videos. Pharrell, Diplo.. Timbaland.. they've all produced their good share of flops.. and not at all because the songs were not decent or radio-friendly. Change it one more time..
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
You're right abotu FIL2N. But its possible the courting of Epic may have just been a move in his negotiations with WB, since the immediate access to his masters are what mattered most to him at that time. Change it one more time..

Rewrite HISTORY if you want, but in the real world, within two weeks after release on radio, FIL2N was one the 50 most played tracks in the USA. His greatest achievement since 1997. Fact is fact. I can't see why it couldn't get higher, just because it's a piece of crap. There are craps everywhere on the top 50.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The main reason was that fallinlove2nite was a modern commercial song...where the songs on AOA are very r&b and not mainstream radio friendly, imo... This could be us fits well on urban radio, but not on pop radio... With real timing ( released after new girl), promotion and a video the song would have probably been a hit... But hit or not hit, it was played a lot and many listerners loved the song... And when i look on the radio playlists, they don`t play that much music from older artists on the mainstream pop stations anyway...

Yeah IIRC, Prince made an achievement, he was one of the top 10 artist after 50 years old who made the top 50 airplay.
