Are the download-only albums still available?

What's up Purple Army! I'm new to this.. I'm 16 and have been into Prince since about a year. (I heard and saw his movie "Purple Rain" in 2011, owned the "The Very Best Of Prince". But now obviously I'm into him more lol)

Now I have: For You - Diamonds and Pearls, The Black Album & The Gold Experience, Musicology, LotusFlow3R/MPLSound, AOA & PlectrumElectrum. Oh and I have the movies, PR, Under The Cherry Moon, Graffiti Bridge on DVD and I also have The Hits Collection DVD (I admire his energy and dances)

The first CD I got outside of PR and The Very Best of Prince was Controversy... Mostly because I saw a fellow Purple Politicain, Jester Jenkins' album discussion on it on YouTube.(That man is really cool with his album discussions!) I've listened to Controversy and since then I've been hooked lol and I love how Prince performed "Controversy" around that era, especially in the music video! smile

there was albums that Prince released as download-onlys from his website. I understand the website was taken down (or atleast I think) but if they are still available anywhere where could I find them? If they aren't available at this time, it's cool lol and sorry if I typed too much..

Thanks for reading up to here, "Love Is God. God Is Love" Godbless!

It sounds like you're missing a lot of the 80s albums, so I would concentrate on getting those first unless you're leaving the best until last.

It should be perfectly legal in most countries to ask a friend of yours to make tape copies of them. The fee you're required to pay for copying things on tapes is still included in the tax that you pay when you buy a pack of tapes razz

Congrats on getting into the Purple One. You've distinguished yourself from your sheepish peers (followers). Happy Disc-overing!

You still have a few holes in the catalogue regarding released albums such as the Symbol Album (best 90's album imo), Come, Chaos & Disorder, Emancipation, The Vault: Old Friends For Sale, Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, The Rainbow Children and 3121.

Then there are the newspaper giveaway CDs - Planet Earth and 20ten.

Then there are the NPG albums - Gold Nigga, Exodus, New Power Soul

Then there are the Live albums - One Night Alone/It Aint Over, Indigo Nights

Then there is the outtakes compilation called Crystal Ball which also includes the accoustic album The Truth and, I use these terms loosely, the "ballet/classical" suite called Kamasutra.

Then there is the piano album One Night Alone (not to be confused with the live album of the same name).

Then there is the music-only NEWS.

I think that is it for actual released albums on physical media. You may have a hard time tracking down a lot of those these days due to being out of print but bargain bins and Ebay should help. Otherwise the internet can help immensely if you do not mind not having the physical cd.

The download-only albums, as far as I can remember, are The Chocolate Invasion, The Slaughterhouse, C-Note, Xpectation, Rave In2 the Joy Fantastic (not actually a download album but you only got the CD if you were a member of the online music club at the time).

I think that should keep you covered for a while! Of course, there are also all the bootlegs of unreleased material and live shows that go all the way back to year dot. But that is whole other thread.

I envy you being able to explore all this music for the first time. It must be a lot of fun (and no doubt frustration too)!

Thanks for that!! And yeah it's a little frustratating, I guess, but it's really fun of course! biggrin and I love getting physical CDs. I've always had.. I like opening them up and looking at the art work and the booklet inside of it(if it has it). and I have some of the vinyls which are cool, I have the singles Lets Go Crazy, When Doves Cry, and Purple Rain on Vinyl. and the albums PR and AOA. i'll eventually work on the vinyl collection but i'll focus on getting the CDs for now.
