Prince's original versions of Family songs

Just recently picked up The Family album, and really like it! Does anyone know if the original versions of the songs were pretty much the same? Just with Prince on vocals instead of St . Paul? Would love to hear the original versions...
We're here, might as well get into it.

High Fashion and Mutiny sound nearly identical. Too bad quality is lacking

High Fashion, Mutiny and Desire are circulating with Prince on vocals and are quite similar to the final versions (no orchestra on Desire, though). There's also a rehearsal version of The Screams Of Passion IIRC.

I know it isn't circulating, but do we know if the Prince version of Nothing Compares 2 U would sound more like the album version or the unreleased one with guitars and drums? I much prefer the latter, so I would hope that if it ever comes out it would be in that form.

There is a rehearsal of The Screams Of Passion, it's a beautiful if somewhat incomplete version, can't remember which boot it's on atm

the first version sounds more like a Purple Rain sound, it reminds me of Another Lonely Christmas.

Also Feline (outtake) the original studio jam is much more Purple Rain and rock, the Family version is Eric/sax replacing guitar with a more Paradesque sound

.

Yes U mean the studio rehearsals with the Revolution. Beautiful

I find this hard to believe but i've read several reports sayin that Paul's vocal were recorded over P's and that his were lost forever. I don't see how this could happen, and I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least a mixed copy of it in the vault even if the multitrack was lost, but that's how the story goes. It's unknown whether P recorded his vocals over only the album version or the original one or both. Of note is the fact that the "bootleg" version was streamed for sometime by paul on his website, making it a semi-official stream (unauthorized by P but still done by one of the bandmembers involved).

I love Paul's rich, sexy vocals. Sometimes I [gasp] even wonder if Prince would be able to do the Family tracks the way Paul did lol

JK, Prince has a better voice than Paul overall. But Paul ain't half bad at all

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2

I used to give this one to St. Paul as perfect, but I'm really getting into Prince's dryer version now.
What?

Best of all of them, is the 8 and half minute rehearsal version of screams of passion, where Prince is telling the band how to play and getting Wendy and Fink to play more chords and Brownmark how to break in a new bass pedal. In amongst is some amazing singing.

.

To me best versions of Mutiny and High Fashion are all the live ones.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
