A nice enough collection of songs comparable to what's on albums like 3121 and 20Ten sandwiched between a few newer sounding pieces that have production values reminiscent of the sound design stuff in contemporary video games or movie trailers.

Echos of the past as he lands in the present, within both the concept of the album and it's musical delivery.

It's good but not great because I know that Prince can top this when he finds another piece of the answer that most of us are looking for and this feels like another step for him towards that destination but that road never ends.

Great album: it's better than 3121, Planet Earth, Musicology, Lotusflower - anything released since 2001 - however it's not another masterpiece like Lovesexy, Parade, 1999, Around The World, Sign "☮" The Times, Dirty Mind, Purple Rain

Despite the fact that I do not like 5 of the songs on the album, Prince has managed to fit them into the context of a cohesive concept album. As always, the concept is flimsy and uninteresting, but where he shines here is in the emotions of the album. It's not the preach father figure nonsense so we've had to put up with lately. It actually sounds like a person with real emotions this time around.

3 out of 5. Like a supermarket cake; Fancy edges but cheap in the middle.

It's crazy, mental, mad, weird, trippy, funky, I'm super picky, the only 5/5 album from prince IMO is Parade but this ones close

The biggest barrier between Prince and great music is that intangible old-man-Prince sound, and there's relatively little of it here.

He's pushing himself here, and seems to have finally stopped chasing that elusvie hit hook, but that means he's relying on texture and rhythm instead, which doesn't always pull through.

4.8/5 WOW amazing range, fun, futuristic, antiflusteration sensual funk session with Prince on AOA.

4.35/5 - Sexiest, funkiest, catchiest and most cohesive album in 20 years...
