The Flesh question What is the connection between U Gotta Shake Something and what it states on wikipedia about the configuration of The Flesh.
It states that side one was ; Junk Music, with side two being; Up From Below, Y'all Want Some More, A Couple Of Miles.
It also lists some songs including U Gotta Shake Something as well as songs called Madrid and High Calconic.

We should have a HUGE link to Princevault at the top of the fontpage, IDK how it is possible that so many fans don't know about this site but given how many times we must past links to it, it seems they just don't A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

The FleshThe Flesh was a project of live jam sessions recorded in late 1985 to early 1986. The project was abandoned when Prince began work on Parade although a small instrumental portion of a track called "Junk Music" made it into the film Under the Cherry Moon. A circulating outtake from these sessions is titled "U Got 2 Shake Something". Track listing Side one
Side two
The Flesh was a kind of precursor to Madhouse. All the tracks were jazz-funk instrumentals. The songs were recorded in 3 sessions soon after Christmas 1985 at Sunset Sound. The first session was on December 28th '85. Prince, Eric Leeds, Sheila E. & Levi Seacer Jr. recorded 8 tracks:
Prince was so pleased with the results that they all returned to the studio 2 days later to record another 3 tracks:
On January 5th '86, Prince, Eric, Sheila & Levi returned to the studio once more, this time with Wendy & Lisa, and Wendy's brother, Jonathan Melvoin. They recorded another 6 tracks:
On January 22nd '86 Prince assembled an album by "The Flesh" entitled "Junk Music" which consisted of the following tracks: side one; Junk Music, side two; Up From Below, Y'all Want Some More, A Couple Of Miles. Junk Music was originally about 45 minutes long, but was edited down to 20 minutes for the album. A Couple Of Miles was an instrumental that Prince recorded on December 26th '85 (he also recorded Can I Play With U in the same session), Eric Leeds added some Saxophone to it on December 30th. The album was shelved due to the fact that Prince's time was taken up with other projects (Under The Cherry Moon, Parade & The Family). Prince liked the idea of releasing an instrumental jazz-funk album under a pseudonym. He finally got round to it in '87, but renamed the project Madhouse & ditched the old Flesh tracks in favor of fresh new recordings. Voodoo Who, Finest Whisky, Tibet, Up From Below, Y'all Want Some More?, A Couple Of Miles, Groove in C Minor, Slow Groove in G Major, Groove in G Flat Minor, Junk Music, Slaughterhouse, U Just Can't Stop, Run Amok, Mobile, Madrid, Breathless, High Colonic, 12 Keys.

Cool, I was looking at princevault before and by looking at all of the songs, it looks as if there was enough material for two albums worth of stuff. A shame it was never officially released.

I could see why he picked Madhouse in favor of The Flesh however. A much more thought out album(s). Straight Jacket Funk Affair

He wouldn't say he picked Madhouse instead of The Flesh. He gave up on The Flesh soon after compiling the album, moved on to other projects and only months later recorded 8. By the time 8 was recorded The Revolution had been disbanded and Crystal Ball/SOTT for a good part recorded, so obviously Prince had moved on past releasing something featuring W&L so proeminently. Also at the time he'd move on to the next project much faster than he does now. Why he decided to cancel The Flesh I'm not sure: was he just unsure about the material or had he already decided he'd do something "better" in the same vein later, it's hard to tell, but he could just as much have released The Flesh in, say, March 1986 and still have released 8 and 16 later in 1987: one project didn't replace the other, they just followed each other. 8 was a very different approach, too: it was a solo album featuring Eric Leeds when the bulk of The Flesh came from jam sessions. 8 was possibly more mature, though, you are right on that account. Thought out I'm not sure given it was recorded in the course of 4 days, just as spontaneously as The Flesh was. Given how both 24 albums were compiled then left to rot in the vault a few years later, it shows that Prince may have felt insecure about releasing jazz-funk records up until he felt ready to do it under his own name with Xpectation and N.E.W.S. in 2003. Youre right. Whatever he was thinking he had better decisions going on in his mind. Especially the Crystal Ball idea. Madhouse was better thought out for sure. The flesh is good on its own but the released Madhouse seem it had the intention and idea of what he wanted it to be. Flesh of course hardcore fans would Would have bought.
