Oh hush! and just follow the link. It sold for $44,800 at Julian's Auction. You can bet your purple loving ass, it's been authenticated.

And the "When Doves Cry" lyrics went for over $38,000...I can't believe I lost out on these (I was prepared to empty my bank account...I bailed when they got over $65.00)...
But I did get the "Junk Music" lyric sheet for less than half of what "Erotic City" brought...(though now I'm not so sure that it's actually Prince's non-writing)
For the money these went for, I'd have had to have Prince's happy ass sitting NAKED in front of me, writing them out while singing. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart. |

As far as I know, he started using the eye icon and later the word "eye" after that song on Lovesexy ( Know). There are lots of lyrics or other handwriting where he has used the eye....much to my dismay.
Doesn't he do it in the Purple Rain tour program? His hand writing is in that, and it's similar but sort of affected, with wider strides, trying to be neater but the loops and stuff are close. If you were going to forge it, you would make it look like the more styled typoeography he put out when he knew it would be reproduced, not his studio scribbles.
I used to think he was saying "Lots of u gets in my eyes".

The black thicker ink could be different. Maybe Sheila's?

I wonder where they get these old handwritten lyrics from....I mean, almost all the classic Purple Rain era´s handwritten lyrics have been sold over the years....but who did Prince give them to, and why? Why wouldn´t he keep them just like he keeps other stuff from that era? And are these the only lyric sheets or are there probably a few other versions as well? So far I´ve seen The Beautiful Ones, Purple Rain with the old lyrics, Erotic City, and I think Let´s Go Crazy and of course She´s Always In My Hair written on that hotel notebook paper. How do these lyrics get into circulation? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?" |
