Video for Automatic? Was the video for Automatic ever released in the US? I watched a shitload of MTV as a kid and remember seeing the videos for 1999 and LRC a million times. But I don't recall seeing Automatic. I just read about it in a book about Prince, and it sounds like an awesome video. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Yeah, it was. It was sent out on VHS to clubs, but I don't think it was sent to TV stations since it was racier, P getting tied up and whipped by Lisa and Jill etc. Have you not seen it? It's easily found online, and appears on pretty much all bootleg DVD compilations of Prince videos. |

I believe I recorded it off of TV back in the day on BET. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

There was an edited version that I saw on occasion on music video channels/shows during the eighties, it's very basic in that form, just Prince at the mike in various poses with a leather cap on his head, with the same set as the 1999 video. In the full version, there's some bed antics, and a little SM/lesbian imagery. It's a poorly made video so I haven't had much desire to see it.

I have it on a boot called PTV Volume 2. . It is very funny, showing Prince dancing with a leather cap and then being strapped down to a bed by Jill and Lisa, who take turns whipping him and putting their cigarettes on him. Prince is very submissive and it ends with them dissolving into steam. Not high art, but bloody funny. It is about 8 minutes long too. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Back in 1983,I saw the "Automatic" video on other video channels, but never on MTV.
Oddly enough,I never saw the "Let's Pretend We're Married" video anywhere back then, even though that song was an official single.

* Yep--it was always shown on BET, especially during their Monday Music Marathon, which would show two hours of Prince videos, hosted by Paul Porter, if I'm remembering his name correctly.

I remember seeing it on local network tv music video shows that were on in the late afternoon, here in the Los Angeles area. I remember seeing n it at least 3 or 4 times. Mostly in 1984 summer after purple rain becamee huge.

Do we know if Prince knew that Lisa was a lesbian, at that point? He included her in the Automatic and 1999 videos in lesbian influenced video roles. She was attractive. So, I imagine that he might have hit on her, and she probably told him that she was gay.
Also, what is the song 'Lisa' about, anyways? I vaguely remember it from my lost bootlegs, but not in heavy detail.
Just asking... | |

I read in one of the books about him, that he met Lisa in early 1980 right after Gayle left and they had a brief affair. . If that is true, she is at least bi, but she was clearly lesbian by the time Wendy was in the group and probably before when Prince encountered Wendy following Lisa around on the Triple threat tour and that was eventually what helped her into the group. . She had been friends for life, but my guess is that she was possibly straight originally, Wendy was a couple of years younger, but seemed to be the dominant one in the pairing and relationship. . Seriously Wendy comes across as more masculine - the butch, whereas Lisa was more feminine - the bitch. So its possible she liked men too. . The final point was that Lisa was only 18 or 19 when she met Prince and was probably still like a young girl in many ways. As she hit her twenties, she probably outgrew him and latched on to Wendy who seems to have escaped the girly girl phase of her life. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Yeah, remember Nat Morris (aka Captain Geek) had that contest, that they actually gave away the very hat Prince wore in the Automatic video. I never knew who won the hat though. I'm also from Detroit, so I definitely knew what you was talking about.

Wendy & Lisa were in a relationship when she(Lisa) joined the band Prince knew Wendy since 1980's Dirty Mind
Seriously that whole masculine/butch/feminine/bitch thing...??? Wendy does not come across as butch at all, and Lisa is not a bitch.
Again Lisa & Wendy were in a relationship when Lisa joined the band. ...

There are women out there who would label themselves as strictly lesbian, not bisexual, and they still have sex with men and enjoy it. I know it sounds weird, but it´s true.

I remember seeing it at Six Flags Great America back then. It played on some kind of video jukebox there. I must have watched it a dozen times. What?

Right, I always thought 'Lesbian/Gay' were more or less a 'social/political' label homosexual, bisexual heterosexual being a persons sexual orientation
