If we're talking about Plectrumelectrum then I believe most of the music was recorded as a band. I'm sure Prince didn't write all of the lyrics, I refuse to believe he wrote Whitecaps, for example. Even if it's proven that he did write the Whitecaps lyrics I'm not going to let my brain remember it RIP

I am 38, as for Pig Latin, never heard of it, I assumed it was some form of Latin, which I never learned as our school system stopped teaching it in 1967 and now you can only learn it at a few religious schools and university. . So my bad. Unless I am a bear, a cat or a dog, 38 last time I looked is not even middle age let alone old. But yes the appeal of a song aimed at 13 to 17 year old girls with IQs between 65 and 90 is lost on me. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Well, even though every generation and era has dumbed down songs...it just kinda stinks that Prince is pandering to get young listeners, even though from all accounts the average age of buyers of both of these albums is likely well above the obvious targeted age. I would assume that at least 80% of the buyers are over 35 and are not crazy about Auto-Tune, and young people trends. I could be wrong, but doubt that I am. And Boy Trouble is a bad song, so I'm glad you would have not cared for it when you were young.

At 13 to 14 I probably would have. I was listening to some very frothy and low quality pop music when I was 13 at least, like Kylie Minogue, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Roxette and Milli Vanilli. . At 14 I grew balls and got into pop rap like Young MC, MC Hammer, Rebel MC, Redhead Kingpin and some better rap music like Ice T, Public Enemy and NWA. . Finally at 15 I discovered Prince and ditched frothy pop and pap rap forever!!! . Going back to music I liked when I was 11 - Whitney, Mel and Kim, Madonna, I would have liked Boytrouble more then. . And you guys are right, most buyers of Prince music are likely to be 35 - 45, but spread across all groups from 14 to about 65, but still your average 40 year old will not care for Boytrouble but dig a song like This could be us, Clouds, Way back home, Another Love and Fixurlifeup - mature Prince music. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Nothing wrong with pop! Kylie in particular is amazing. Her albums from 1997-2003 especially are incredible! Yeah, "BoyTrouble" may not be particularly mature, but I like a little playfulness from Princey. "This Could Be Us" doesn't sound really mature either - it kind of sounds like a sappy Disney 90s ballad at times. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Sure, it's all opinion...but "This Could Be Us" sounds like the most mature song ever written compared to Boy Trouble.
Look, I don't want Prince pulling a John Mellencamp or a Sting...both of those guys are trying so hard to sound mature it sounds like they have some contest going to see who can impress each other's dead Great Grandfathers...but pandering to kids when kids are not gonna buy your albums is weak.
I will say that Mellencamp is making some good music, but he refuses to rock anymore, just folk music. And Sting only has one new album of original new material since 2004, and it sounds like the damn Pirates of Penzance, although that play was written around 1880, and sounds more modern than Sting's Last Ship album.

Boy Trouble...fun track in a fun laden album. Shame that some continue to live in their little box...everything outside that box is "bad".
Anyone ever listened to arrival of the birds...?

I like it fine, personally...This kind of generalization is getting so tiresome around here. Must we like absolutely everything? Are we allowed no discernment whatsoever reagarding our musical preferences?

* While I agree with you, I think the point is that usually those on this cite who tend to dislike something--especially those who haven't liked anything since The Eighties--usually go beyond their own tastes and attack anyone who likes something that they dislike as having "bad" tastes or being "ass-kissers," i.e. "only those of y'all who lap up every little piece of bullshit that Prince craps out his ass would like this crap". So, yes, we should all be allowed "discernment regarding our musical preferences," but the people most guilty of not allowing for this are those who've spent the past ten, fifteen, twenty years trying to convince the rest of us that were are "wack," "idiots," or just "lacking good taste" for liking something that they do not like.

Boytrouble sounds like a fun girl's night out theme or something. I think it was intended to draw in younger listeners or something. I wouldn't call it the worst song since the 90s - I love almost all of his work. I really really like this cd. The only song I don't care for is the last song but I still will listen to it and I really like this cd alot. It reminds me of his Purple Rain work with the heavy guitar and the girls singing remind of the work he may have wanted to do with Wendy and Lisa had they remained. Does Prince ever leave comments or chat on this website? Superfunkycalifragisexy!

I assumed it was an actual live language game, like ubbi dubbi or the -izzle thing or pig latin (it's clearly not pig latin, though)--but I have a hard time following those even when they're done slowly, so I couldn't figure out the rules of this one. Chances are it's ridiculously simple, and just some part of the lyrics re-done. I checked Wikipedia just to see if I could find a possible variant--some seem insanely complicated. The weirdest thing though was this: Esperanto has a play form called Esperant. . The song itself isn't interesting enough to be his worst song since the 90s--and I kind of get the idea that it's possible the song is less his than the rest of the album. While there's no credit for writing given to Lizzo or Sophia Eris--there's also no lyrics in the booklet, while lyrics are included for the other tracks. Instead, the song's page just says "Boytrouble Featuring Lizzo & Sopia Eris." I'm guessing it's quite possible quite a bit was up to the featured performers. I can't say with any great certainty, obviously--and I haven't heard Lizzo's other work yet--but it seems likely that not much besides the music is really P and 3EG. And the music's okay, in my opinion. Not great. But okay.

I wouldn't discount that it might be Pig - Latin , or some other play language - when you listen to the words it sounds like there is a pattern to where phrases are placed.
But, editing in production has definitely been used. At the very beginning and end of the track, where the vocal is most isolated, you can hear various click points where it sounds like an edit was made. Whether this was used to actually form the "word" itself, or was used to remove gaps between the words to speed up delivery is hard to say. But it sounds like there's some chopping going on to me. I like it, but I'd like it a whole lot more without the shitty rapping.
There are plenty of contenders for worst song since the 90s, and this doesn't even come close imo.

Hmm, well fortunately the world doesn't operate within your narrow and stereotyped parameters! I'm 42 and really like Boytrouble (for what it is - but it's not a "serious" track), so your final assumption is quite incorrect. I also produce what some refer to here as "young music styles" (whatever that means? Musical styles can and are enjoyed by all ages - in fact, the only style I can think of that deserves that label is nursery rhymes!) - I make techno, drum'n'bass, dubstep etc....all sorts. But how can this be? I'm 42!! People of all ages enjoy all sorts of music. We have children dancing at some of our festival gigs.and the oldest fan I've met is 68! The world doesn't work on generalisation -it thrives on diversity and it's a far more colourful and varied place than you seem to see. Mind you, I had to stop taking you that seriously when you said you "grew balls and started to listen to...MC Hammer"!!!
